The startup screen stays on and trys to load, but nothing happens. It shows the Walkman logo and their slogan and it's the same screen that shows up when it's starting up, but it's not getting past this point

Sounds like your having issues with your OS (windows or equivalent). This could be cause by virus/malware not being "treated" or with a critical update install failure. Do you have your OS original CD? Go into Enter Setup when the HP logo comes up by pressing the F function button it shows at the bottom of the screen under the HP logo. Look for Boot Options and make sure that your OS CD or bootable USB is the first one in the boot list. Save and exit. It will boot from your external drive (CD/USB key) and will you the option Repair. Try that and let me know!

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.


2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

The same thing happened with my s616f and I just fixed it today. Connect your walkman to the computer to charge it then when the blue screen pops up heres gonna be that blue line going across the screen(the thing that shows that its loading) then while its loading press and hold the back/home and the option/pwr off buttons until it turns on. Hope it works:)

reboot while holding the option key down. It should show you available hard drives from which you can startup.
Choose the drive and then press return or enter.
Then restart.
If nothing happens, turn off the laptop and insert your Mac OS disk and then reboot while holding down the C key.
The computer will load the system on the disc instead of your hard drive. Then instead of reinstalling the system software, look at the top menu and find the Disk Utilities program and run a repair on your hard drive.
Then reboot without the disk in the drive.

Usually system stops at the startup screen or the startup logo, when it finds some fault in detecting the IDE drives(ie,your harddisk or cd drive), if you dint get any get stuck in the logo, you have to see what happens at the background by clicking on f1 key or f12 or TAB or some key to show the activity rather than logo.....

After seeing the error we can conclude or decide about the problem, but when you were not able to see the screen after pressing any key as specified in your manual, Or it hangs after the LOGO screen, this must be problem with your harddrive, try changing the harddish or try connecting once again by removing it...

I work with Compaq computers now and usually your problem points to the hard drive. I know Compaq's will stay on that screen if the hard drive has failed. Try another hard drive would be my suggestion.

when that happens you want to get some thing sharp and hit the reset button on the bottom of the Walkman

try to on it... by pressing the play button or on button by pressing it for few seconds... else try to format or update..

Check the coolant between the CPU and the cooler to ensure it's not simply over heated.
