Microwave oven part fallen off.

Toshiba microwave oven, purchased in Australia around 1984. The white cover in the ceiling of the oven, (covering what maybe the source of the waves?) has become dislodged and fallen off. There are three screw holes in the cover, but the screws are nowhere to be found. Can I replace with ordinary screws? Can I use the oven without the cover? Where can I find help to fix such an old machine in Surrey?

There are nylon push-in fasteners that snap into place. If there is a shop that works on microwaves, they will generally have them. Over time these fasteners get brittle and crumble away. Another option is to use nylon screws, if you can find some the right size. I don't recommend metal screws as they may arc in the cooking cavity. Using the microwave without the cover will result in spattered food getting into areas that can't be cleaned.

On the Toshiba er-7810 microwave oven, the top plastic cover plate has fallen down. What screws do I use?

Most generally the waveguide cover just snaps into holes or slots and uses no screws. Some ovens use plastic rivets to hold the cover in place.

Waveguide Cover

If the microwave is sparking or arcing the waveguide cover might be damaged and shorting out. Try removing the waveguide cover and see if the problem goes away. If there are any damaged spots in the microwave ceiling or sidewalls, repair them and paint them with microwave oven paint. Replace the waveguide cover if it is burnt or if it will not stay in place.

Microwave Oven Paint

If the microwave is sparking or arcing on the side walls the paint might have chipped causing pitting in the metal oven wall. Use microwave safe paint to touch up any bare metal spots.

Rack Support

If the microwave is sparking or arcing near one of the rack supports, remove the support, repaint any bare metal, install a new support.

When I turn on the microwave to heat anything, it makes a sizzling, cracking noise, and kinda looks like a fire, on the right hand side, as you are facing the microwave.... There is a screen area with the...

It sounds like what you are talking about is an issue with the waveguide cover. It is usually made of a material called Mica. Its purpose is to cover the aperture through which the microwaves enter the oven cavity from where they are produced by the Magnetron behind the control panel. It stops moisture and food particles getting into the "workings" of the microwave.

if your microwave is working ok and behaving itself then there is nothing to worry about, but there may be one of 3 problems that may arise which should be rectified.

1. Its fallen off.

2. It has a hole in it.

3. It is arcing or sparking during use.

In any eventuality it should be replaced. If it has fallen off or got a hole in it then there is the risk of food or moisture getting into the waveguide which will reduce the efficiency of the oven. If it is arcing or sparking then continued use will damage other components in the microwave including the oven cavity which could be costly to rectify.

If there are any issues with your waveguide cover it should be replaced. When new the mica sheet is rigid and firm. Over a period of time it absorbs moisture and gets food splatters on it. It then becomes soft and flexible. The cover can be replaced either with a suitable replacement made by the manufacturer of the microwave or if the old cover is in good enough shape to be used as a template, blank sheets of mica can be purchased and cut to fit.

Can i safely use microwave when inner oulet cover fallen off. Thanks

Usually the covers are just cosmetic but to be sure you should do a leak test. This is nothing more than running around the microwave with a neon bulb while it is running. If it is leaking then it will light up and you should not use the oven as it isn't safe. If you don;t have a bulb most applience repair shops will do the test for you usually for free.Only takes a minute to do but is important to know it isn't leaking microwave energy out.

My panasonic microwave model NN T99)SAF is now missing a part. The part is on the inside of the microwave. It is a thin flat piece that is a cover over an opening for a fan or something . . .it is about 4"...

That is called the ceiling cover, also known as the waveguide cover, stirrer cover, or spatter shield.

It will definitely need to be replaced. It provides important protection for the magnetron.

You will need the following parts:

B20554U00AP ceiling cover
A90804U00AP canoe clip

The best place to order parts for this brand is Encompass (formerly Tritronics). Or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Burnt ceiling

Well microwave probably was too close to the ceiling and it wasn't getting enough air through and it got hot then bam you have a hole in your ceiling... if your microwave is completely ruined then don't bother with it just get a new one but if it works try moving it farther away from the ceiling.. good luck =]]

Microwave oven

I would check the area around the ceiling of the microwave. There may be grease of other food buildup on the waveguide cover. Or the stirrer may be sticking or arcing, which would need to be replaced. This unit may be subject to post-manufacturing modifications, requiring a few new parts. You might check on this with GE Customer Relations at 1-800-386-1215 (8-6 ET). If they cover the cost of parts, great. If not, you can get them cheaper here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Feel free to see my site for my safety & disassembly files.
