You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

I have an inspiron E1505 and i am trying to connect to my network to get rid of viruses. I am trying to connect using Intel ProSet/Wireless, but I am still not able to connect. Any suggestions?

Hi
Need to know when you try to search the network in the intel proset , does it find the network name or not . ie. does it see your wireless connection.

Alternatively you can use the following link for troubleshooting

Wireless connectivity

It might be a program promblem. Download Intel PROSet Wireless (program might not be found when it doesn't have the caps). If that doesn't work try installing another wi-fi reciever. You can buy one at office depot.

Ip Address 169.x.x.x Wireless Internet Connection Problems 6400/E1505 Dell Laptop

questions to ask yourself:
- I the wifi card connecting to the routers wifi network? or your next door neighbors?
- did it connect with the correct WEP? withouot the right WEP it will not communicatwith the WAP
- is the router set to be the DHCP server? this function is normally defaulted to ON

some times though windows simply has to have its TCP stack reset after having been connected to too many different networks, especially if you are a heavy wifi user.

open a command prompt: I see you already know how.

Type this command line

netsh int ip reset <anyfilenameyoulike>.txt
the txt file will be a log file tha will be placed on your main (c:) drive after the NETSH command has run

next lets reset winsock since we are here in the command line anyhow

netsh winsock reset

if everything goes right you'll be prompted to reboot you machine.

hopefully this will solve your inability to aquire an IP address from the router.

Hey there,

The wireless driver might only work on Vista, try the IT Administrators - Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility for Windows* XP and Windows Vista*from here

First uninstall the one you have though..
