i need to know where to plug in that 6 pin PCIe aux. power cable to though...i have no idea what it looks like or where it is on my Mac Pro.

  • Anonymous Feb 24, 2010

there is no need to buy any additional cables. it cam with a 6 pin AUX cable and that plugs directly in the Mac's logic board. the connection is what i had issues finding on the logic board, but it is located (if looking in at the logic board) on the top left. easy, simple no need for Molex splitters, or extra cables. plugged in, started up and works like a charm.

  • Anonymous Feb 24, 2010

low rating was because your solution was incorrect. there is no need to buy a Molex splitter or additional cables. your solution would make things a 1000 times more difficult then it needs to be...sorry man.

That card needs extra power - more than it can get thru the PCI-E socket - so do exactly what it's said : connect an extra power cable from the power source to the card.

You need to buy it -http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3280...

Or you can use a regular molex splitter that you can find in any computer store, connect it to the spare molex from the superdrive power cable, and then use the molex-to-pcie power cable that comes with the card.
It can be plugged in only the correct way at both plugs so don't force it.

And you gave me a low rating because...

If you prefer the Apple way instead the recommended by ATI way don't come here in a few months complaining that the 150 watts needed to power the X1900 burned your motherboard.

Will ATI Radeon x1900 run on my Dell Optiplex 755?

Looking at the specifications for the Optiplex 755 line I'm seeing the highest power supply is in the minitower version at 305W. I can't find a document specifying the power requirements for the Radeon x1900, but most benchmark power consumption tests show the system pulls around 280 - 300W with that card installed.
The problem is either your specific Optiplex 755 configuration can't support the power requirements, I don't know if you have the MiniTower, Desktop Tower, Small Form Factor or Ultra Small Form Factor version of the sytem or the card is itself is bad.

Radeon x1900 card pink screen

If your second display is a CRT you have a blown gun in the tube. Or the chassis has become magnetised. Either DeGauss the display (CRT only) or swap the displays around to check if the display or the card is at fault.

Card seems to overheat and is very noisy at times which is followed by the monitor shutting itself off, does the card need to be replaced or is there some way of keeping it cool - thanks in advance for all...

I would suggest cleaning out your computer of all dust as this can cause heat. You can use your vacuum cleaner to do this. Next make sure that your chassis has an adequate amount of case fans to increase the air flow.

I do get withe or green lines across the screen when playing big movie files and some this when there is a load on the screen the computers freezes and the screen is black when it starts up number of...

It could have something to do with the graphics card but the lines that show up have me thinking that it has to do with the monitor. The only way to know for sure is to hook up the monitor to another MAC and if you still get lines then you'll know its the monitor. If your still unsure, get the Radeon 1900 graphic cards upgrade kit replaced, if you still get the lines then you'll know its the monitor, if the lines go away then you know its the video card.

Sounds like you installed something that may have altered you video driver/settings, just a quick solution is to reinstall the driver, here is ATI's website where you can chose your OS and download a new driver: http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.12&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=Select+an+Operating+System+%28OS%29+type&keywords=&items=20

As far as I am aware, you can not upgrade the graphics in a laptop unless that laptop is equipped with an MXM type slot for graphics.
