I can't fax out. I dial the number and get a fast busy even though I know the number is not busy as I can reach it on my regular phone line. I have checked the lines, unplugged and replugged everything and still nothing works. This applies to domestic and international faxes. HELP!

Have you checked you Pulse/Tone dialing switch? Perhaps it is dialing in the incorrect mode, it should be set to Tone, please check.

Hi.

Check and eventually replace the phone cable.
The fax machine must be connected using a two-conductor phone cable such as the cable pictured below at the left:

MY HP 5610 ALL - IN- ONE is telling me that every fax number I dial is busy.

You have a bad phone line OR they are busy. Call the numbers from a regular phone to listen for fax tones.

Since you mentioned that you have an outside line, do you have to use a code to dial out normally? Try plugging in a phone to the line for your fax machine, and attempt to dial the number for the other fax machine using the phone. You should reach the fax and hear a high pitched sequence of tones. This is the other fax machine trying to establish a connection. If you still get a busy signal, try calling the owner and letting them know that their fax machine is not accepting incoming calls.

Every time I try to fax I get a busy signal. I tried to fax several places and I get the same thing cannot be completed as dial.

dial those numbers from a regular phone and listen for fax tones. If you hear a busy signal, then they are busy.

Each time I try to send a fax it says the number is busy when I know it is not

Dial the number on a regular phone and verify that the number ANSWERS with the fax tones immediately. If it doesn't, then the line will register as busy to your fax.

When trying to fax, iam getting a fast busy signal, this problem just strated

This could be related to the fax machine, but more than likely it's a phone line issue. Try sending a fax manually by using the fax machine's speaker or "on-hook", then manually dial the number. Listen carefully as the machine dials and make sure it's even dialing out. Do not hit start until you hear the other fax machine pick up. If the "fast" busy signal occurs before dialing is complete or right after, have your phone line checked.

Cannot fax

Is thi sin an office?
Are you using a direct outside line or is it an office extension?

Your office extension may have restrictions on it and you would need to remove those.

I would confrim the numbers are fax numbers and that that line is ok by:
  • Dialing those fax numbers from a working phone line other than the fax machine
  • Unplug the fax and plug in a regular phone in the same line and see if you can dial out and then try those fax numbers again.
If the numbers work from a normal phone but not the fax line, then I would check that line for restrictions.

Error 401 & 634

error 634 is an indication that the line was either busy, or there was no answer on the receiving end.
