The laptop is dead.

HI,I have a Toshiba Satelite M45 S165 laptop(5 years), and I think I a have a Cmos batery problem. It all started 1 year ago when the time keep falling behind. 2 days ago I took out the main battery, and after that the laptop woudnt start again. If I manage to enter BIOS, the time is freezing after 3 second, and nothing,I have to unplug the AC, and take out the main Batery to shutdown the laptop. I think the problem is the Cmos batery, which is soldered to the MB. I dont know what tipe is it, and where to buy a new one.
Sr for my eng. Please help me.Tx.

It does sound like your cmos battery. It is located on your system board. If your confident you can take the laptop apart and get the details from the battery and then goto a pc shop and buy a new one if not take the laptop to the shop and they can replace it for you.

Did you "minimize" or "mute" the internal speakers?

If not, it's time to take the laptop to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting & repair.

> over a year

Most laptops come with only a one-year warranty.
Is the warranty still valid?
Was an "extended" warranty purchased, either from Toshiba or from the computer-store that sold it to her?
Was it purchased on a credit-card that automatically "doubles" the warranty?

If drive not spinning, definitely dead. If spins and not recognized by laptop cmos, the logic board on drive is toast.
Afraid that you have a nice cute paperweight.

Toshiba laptop power cable won't charge battery

I had the same problem with my HP laptop some years ago. you have a broken cable/cord and it is the part that is permanently attached with your power pack. If you look at the cord that plugs into your laptop, you can be able to see the faulty part of it. it is usually very flexible or swollen. You can either take it to an electrical technician to change that part of the cord. Your power pack is still ok, but have the technician to check it out first before you change the cord. Else, you may have to get another power pack. below is the full specification of the power pack that is recommended for your laptop.

To get to it, Take off LCD, keyboard, top palmrest, hard drive, battery, memory, top power cover, switch board, modem, network. and some others. Too many to describe here. Items to remove not in order.

Hi,
If you have disassembled your toshiba unit, and you are somewhat new in electronics, you cannot see the battery similar to other PC, bcoz its battery is somewhat soldered, and the only things you migt notice is its two colored wire (black and red) attached to a round, flat, insulated (wrapped with insulation) battery.
