I have an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop that is not powering up. When the laptop is running off the battery and I try to turn it on, the power light and the disk light flash for a few seconds, then it shuts down. When the power cord is plugged in,It does the same thing. Is there anything that can be done without taking it in for service? I've tried taking out the battery and holding the on button to see if that would reset it. It still won't work. It had a lot of dust build up on the cooling fins I'm afraid it has overheated and hurt some parts. HELP!

how to solution acer extensa 4520-5687 for laptop bios password clear

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2011

well there is couple of choice you can do this, one if you know the password of the bios, then of course go into the bios menu and disable it in the security tab by entering the current password and when prompt for a new one, just type in nothing and enter enter, sometime loading the default value will also work. Two, if you don't know the password or forgot, with some laptop you can just take the back panel of the laptop and take out the memories/ram for a few minutes and it will reset the bios to original, if that don't work, you are going to have to dig in deep where you have to take your laptop apart to get to the cmos battery that holds instruction saved in the bios. By doing this you are doing a hard cmos clearing of the bios setting and restoring it to the original setting. In this process you are required to take the laptop completly apart, since in the acer 5420 that i have, the cmos battery is located around the right side palm rest area covered with a sticky paper tape. You will have to take the motherboard out from the laptop and turn it over and you will see a battery that is about silver 1" in diameter. You will have to take it out, and let it sit out for a few minutes and then put back it, This will allow for a hard bios clearing which could clear the bios password. Other then that, I'm not sure what to do, In the last 2 process, make sure laptop battery is not attached or so with the power cords.

Acer Extensa 5235 wil not power on

The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:

1.) Your charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.

2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.

3.) Your battery is faulty.

I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

Hi, I have Acer extensa 5220 ,it is 1.5 years old...Recently a problem started that when i connect battery to my laptop(AC plug is on) the battery LED on the laptop blinks 3 times orange and turn into...

Borrow a "MultiMeter" and check the VOLTAGE and AMPERAGE output from the battery. Although it's rare for an 18-month-old battery to "die" (or to refuse to recharge), it can happen.

If you try to run the computer _only_ on the battery, without AC power, does it work? If not, replace the battery -- look on eBay for cheaper-than-Original-Equipment replacement batteries.

Acer extensa 5620 will power on. The battery light on with the battery and power cord. But it will light on with the just the power cord or jujst the battery.

As long as it is working OK, then the battery light, is only an indicator, A laptop should work, either way, with just the battery, or just the Power Supply, and of course both. Try adjusting you Power Settings and see if that alters anything. Also consult you manual about the issue.

Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop won't turn on

Okay, Here's the deal..... I recently had the same problems with my friends' Acer Extensa laptop and here's what I did to fix it. I narrowed the issue down to two culprits 1. Overheating, 2. Defective Motherboard. I have fixed the problem but I takes time, patience and some technical ability which may not be available to some. :( (Swapping out the motherboard MAY fix the problem but if the defect is in the manufacturing process then the problems could return). Here's how I fixed it... While in the process of disassembly I noticed a small electrolytic capacitor that had seemingly broken off and had become wedged between the frame (<ital>very lucky! this gave me the clue I was looking for!</ital>). This made me think that it had broken off the motherboard. I proceeded to disassemble the laptop and found the location of the missing capacitor (there are two located right next to each other on the board) and was able to re solder the capacitor back onto the motherboard (could it be a manufacturing processing defect thats causing these to break loose? ). Mine was broken off due to what looked like bad solder joints. Your capacitors could still be attached but have weak solder connections. Also while i had access to the motherboard, I used the opportunity to clean and re apply the heat sink compound to the CPU and thoroughly clean the fan vents. I then reassembled the laptop and EVERYTHING has been running fine now for the last 3 days. Total time was about 4hrs and it cost NOTHING to repair. GOOD LUCK :)

Acer Extensa 5420 won't turn on, not a power/battery problem.

Just for the heck of it, try blowing out the cooling fan with some compressed air. If you have never cleaned it and the fan stops turning, the computer will go into a safe mode and not start up.
Ther should be a vent somewhere on the side of the laptop that vents hot air cooling the CPU. That is where you need to blow it out.
Hope it helps- just a longshot...
