The feeder on this model has 1 weak mounting place for the gears that drive the feed roller. The plastic stud that holds the gear will break off of the frame and cause the noises you hear and no paper feed. The only fix is to replace the sheet feeder assembly, about $30.00 for the part.

Sounds like the gears are out of alignment for the paper pick up tray.

SOURCE: Paper won't load. Media loaded incorrectly.

Okay.. 1st off I'm probably going to the jumped on for this... But.. I fix and/or make them work printers, computers and all sorts of electronic gear. For a living... Yes .. the manufacturer will tell you not to use alcohol to clean the rollers. but it does work. Windex (ammonia) will clean the heads at times. I also use Scotch brite pads to clean the pickup rollers. We get them in about 8x10 inch pads.
I will spay some alcohol on the end where the pick up roller is. Place the pad in normal paper tray. Most printers have a cam shaped one on the right, left or in the middle. That gets the paper moving. The pad is way to thick to actually move and will cause a jam indication on the printer. But what happens is the roller will slip on the pad and clean itself. Pretend you cleared the jam a couple of times and the printer will try to pick up the 'paper' and jam again. A couple of these and the pick up roller (cam shaped) will usually be good to go. The other option (the best) is to buy a new pickup roller for the printer. But cleaning will work for the short term. What happens on most printers is the roller gets very smooth from normal use and then won't pick up the paper for the rest of the trip through the printer. I have used a piece of fine grade sand paper, but you have to hold it so it won't go through the printer and it makes a gritty mess... Once I orderd a 'printer cleaner' from HP and all it was, was a couple of pieces of scotch brite glued to a fancy holder to match the spacing of the rollers. That's when I started using sheets of the stuff. Just pretend they are a piece of printer paper. In the worst case I have used belt dressing and then alcohol to clean most of it off. Alcohol has a tendency to soften the rubber on the pickup roller. That's why the company says don't use it. But you can by rubber rejuvenator that is mainly alcohol.. Go figure.........

SOURCE: Our Brother MFC-8860DN will only feed paper from

Printers have rollers that grab and feed the paper. They can get dirty over a period of time, or lose some of their "stickiness". Sometimes they're easily accessible, sometimes not, depending on the printer. They can be cleaned with alcohol and q-tip or cloth. The weight of the paper is probably causing just enough resistance to make the printer think there's a jam, but there could also be a problem with the mechanics of the sensor assembly, or a fragment of paper jammed up somewhere. Sometimes you can get it working without taking the machine apart, and sometimes you can't. Make sure you don't void any warranties, of course, but with some investigation, you might get lucky. You've probably done most of what I suggested, but you might take one more look. Good luck!

When the alarm and data lights are on, means that the toner is empty and you wont be able to print until you purchase a new toner and replace it.

Paper feeds over 50% into printer, makes noises an stops. When I try to see the paper by lifting the lid, it's not there. It's as if its feeding into another area of the printer

One of the leading causes of paper jams is some sort of debris falling into the feeder. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Grab a flashlight and look into the feeder for any foreign objects. If you're willing and capable, carefully lift your printer upside down. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

Why doesn't paper feed after "print" instruction? Printer merely makes a mechanical noise and states "paper out" condition.

Hello.

There are lots of reasons why this would happen:

Foreign object (could be very tiny)

Any power lights flashing ?

Paper feed rollers may need cleaning - try (from Canon Support):

1. Ensure that the printer is turned on. If any paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.

2. Select which roller to clean, the auto sheet feeder's or cassette's, by pressing the <Paper Feed> switch on the printer.

3. Hold down the <Resume/Cancel> button; when the Power lamp flashes green three times, release the button. The paper feed roller will rotate as it cleans itself.

4.. Repeat step 3 twice.

5. Load three or more of A4 or letter sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder or cassette, as selected in step 2.

6. Repeat step 3. The paper that is loaded in the printer will be fed through the printer and ejected.

7. If printing problems persist, repeat step 6 up to three times.

Could be a hardware error and the printer would need servicing - still under warranty ?? If so, return to Canon for repair or replacement.

Hope this helps.

My Ip90 won't feed paper when I try to print a job.

Hi there,
If the paper does not feed properly it could be due to the follwong causes.

Cause 1 : Inappropriate paper type used
Action : * Check to see if the paper you are printing on is too thick or curled.
* Check if the paper exceeds the load limit mark, if it exceeds, load less paper.

Cause 2 : Paper Feed Roller is dirty.
Action : Follow the steps described below to clean the Paper Feed Rollers.
If envelopes or post cards do not feed properly, even after correctly any paper curl, clean the Paper Feed Roller.
1) Ensure that the printer is turned on and there is no paper loaded in the printer.
2) Hold the RESUME/CANCEL button down and release after the POWER lamp flashed there three times.
The paper roller rotates as it cleans.
3) Repeat this cleaning operation one more time.
4) Load a sheet of plain paper in the printer.
5) Hold the RESUME/CANCEL button down and release after the POWER lamp flashes three times, then feed a sheet of paper.

Cause 3 : Paper jams.
Action : Remove the paper according to the following procedure.
1) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Auto Sheet Feeder or from the Output Slot Cover, whichever is easier.
* If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the printer, open the Print Head Cover and remove it.
Caution: Be careful not to touch any components inside the printer.
* If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the printer off and turn it on again.
The paper will be ejected automatically.
2) Reload the paper into the printer and press the RESUME/ CANCEL button.
If you cannot remove the paper or if the paper tears inside the printer or if the Paper Jam error continues after removing the paper, contact the Customer care center.

Hope this helps.

Have a good day.

Shreeder Feeder jammed , appears cleared, makes a humming noise when attempting to feed paper and a similar noise when hitting the reverse button. Help please. Thank you.

It could be one of two problems and they are both usually caused by over feeding. Either the tooth rollers have junped out of their sockets or they are jammed tight with paper which would cause the first to happen also. There are safety switches but unplug the unit any way. Get on the output side of the shreeder and start pulling paper or remove the metal object that was dropped into its throat. Hopefully, you won't have to take it apart to put the rollers back into their sockets.

Canon Pixma Paper feed not feeding!!

Either the pickup roller needs to be replaced,(a maintenance kit) or the tray isn't pushing the paper high enough to grab. Tyr loading a few more pages in the tray and making sure the tray is seated properly. Then try replacing the roller.
