1/2hp Hayward Pump for existing inground pool

Hi,

My 3/4hp jacuzzi pump disintegrated during my shut down this year and I need to replace.  I found a used 1/2hp Hayward Super Pump S4842N122A4 that I would like to install.  Here are the specs on my pool:

Pool volume 10,000 gallons
Lift - approx 5 ft
Filter - Hayward Pro Series Model S-189T (Filter/backwash rate 23 gpm/sq ft, Design Flow Rate 40gpm, Max Working Pressure 50psi)
Heater - Hayward H1501

Will I be okay with the 1/2 hp motor?  If not, can I install a bigger motor on the pump (Model 2600X5A)?

Thanks,
Wayne

You will be fine with the 1/2hp. The Hayward will move quite a bit of water as well. It may not move as much water as the 3/4hp but it's very close and the 1/2hp will cost a little less to operate so if anything, you may just have to run it for one additional hour per day to compensate. You will be surprised how much water a 1/2hp will move. The only issue with smaller pumps is if you have pop-up cleaner heads or a suction driven automatic cleaner such as a kreepy krauly, however, if a 3/4hp will run it, a 1/2hp will run it as well. You can install a larger motor on the super pump but it will not move more water unless you upgrade the impeller as well. Just make sure you don't use a bigger impeller than what the motor is rated for because it will strain the motor and cause it to overheat. Hope this helps.

New XtremepowerUS 2HP In-Ground Swimming Pool Pump Variable Speed 2 Inlet 230V High Flo w/ Slip-On Fitting, i turned it on after 2 mins switch from high to low then shut off and get very hot.

All electric motors run hot and pool pumps are no different. But how hot is too hot for a pool pump? The first test is simply whether you can touch the motor or not. Under normal operating conditions, the motor end of the pump is hot enough that you can barely touch it - but not searing hot.

Best to you.

I have a Hayward Super Pool pump for my inground pool. Was running the pump, heard a noise, by the time I got over to the pump to check it it shut off. It has been off for over 2 hours. It is not hot....

Get another brand. Hayward is junk. I had the same exact thing happen. Of course warranty is only one year. I paid out of pocket to replace the motor. Guess what happened 2 years later?

I need a seal for my 1.5 horse power SPL pool pump, but I cannot find it. The company I bought my pool pump no longer carries Jacuzzi pumps. Is there somewhere I can get it or another seal I substitute?

Any pool store in your area should have a 201 mechanical seal available. If not, try looking under pump repair for a shop in your area. It is a very common seal and is interchangeable with the Hayward super pump seal so it should not be hard to find.

I do have inground pool 16 *32 10 feet deep at one end and 4 feet at front, The pump did not start at all when i started it. Since the pump is an old pump above 15 years old I decided I would buy a new...

I'd suggest the 1.5 HP Hayward Super Pump, model SP2610X15. It's layout makes fitting it into the footprint of the Jacuzzi easier since it's ports roughly line up and are smaller in spread than the jacuzzi. Any pump will require some monor replumbing; the Haywards should be the least intrusive.

Another good choice would be the Pentair Whisperflow in a 1.5HP with or without the variable spped features.

2 yr old inground pool Hayward pump louder than normal. Bearings were checked and seals replaced prior to opening this summer.

If there is air in the pump it cavitates and can make it run louder, otherwise it is the bearings in the motor.

Inground pool question. How far away can I position my skimmer.

you don't say the volume of the pool, but if the 1.5 was working before and you are not adding too many turns, it will work.
