I'm trying to wipe my hard drive with Fedora 12 and three partitions. I have 1 system disc and 3 recovery discs from Acer. After installing files from the system disc, I replaced it in the DVD drive with recovery disc 1. I got "Restore failed-reason 0xa000000e. Click OK to restart the computer" error message when the process came to the RESTORE PARTITION screen. Current Progress at the bottom did not show any progress. Below RESTORE PARTITION was this file address: X:RyToolsNAPP6.exe Please help me as soon as you can. Thanks, Jeff Sherman

Erecovery management for acer aspire one without disk drive wont run

Ask acer for this problem, when you buy a laptop you need to make recovery discs, you prolly did not do that. So now it asks for recovery files on the dvd disc.
If it has no dvd drive you should have made them on a usb drive.
If acer cant help you with that, reinstall windows thats the only option.
Partitions hidden can be removed but then there is no way to restore the pc to factorydefaults anymore.

When you decide to reinstall windows, you will see 3 partitions, remove them all, then make 1 partition click next and it will make a little partition for system files. the rest is used for windows, untill u partition the rest, like a d: e: drive.
tip

How Do I Correct the Error and Recover an Acer Computer hard drive?

In order to correct the hard drive partitions so the recovery program will work, you can use a variety of tools listed below.

1) Active@ KillDisk - Use their free killdisk program to wipe the hard drive clean off all partitions.

2) Ubuntu or another Linux alternative bootdisk. Create a boot disk for the Ubuntu Live CD and boot the computer from it. During the boot process it will ask to "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer". This is the option you want. Once Ubuntu loads, find the partition editor program under the System, Administration menu..

To delete a partition, right click on the partition that you wish to delete and select "Delete" from the menu. Once you are sure that you've selected the correct partition, and are positive that you have backed up all the files or data that you wish to save from that partition, click the "Apply" button at the top of the Window, and the partition will be deleted.

3) Use the Acer Hard Drive Format Utility, on some versions of Acer computers when you have the option to create Recovery disks, the system creates a hard drive format utility CD as well. Boot from this CD and format the hard drive.
The utility will recreate 1 partition (C: drive), after the partition has been created, you'll be able to reload the HDD with the backup media. The file is an ISO image for CD media only (not compatible with floppy diskettes). Create a CD disc from the ISO image file using a CD writer program on another computer.

Once the hard drive partitions have been deleted by any of the utilities above, you can proceed with rebooting the computer using the Acer System CD and proceeding with the complete recovery of the system.

The HDD of my Acer Aspire 5102WLMi got broken. I bought a new one, partitoned it, load the D: drive with Acer stuff from backup, mounted it in the laptop and started this with the recovery CD. This...

@hellepie

The HDD interface on this machine is a PATA so BIOS shows the correct interface as IDE 0. Upon loading up the recovery disc (I'm assuming it's a good condition genuine Acer recovery media), what it does is that it re-images the HDD to the default file system and automatically occupies the full partition of the HDD so if you have already re-partition it, the problem might lie right there. Try to do the following:

1. Erase all partition on the new HDD that you have purchased and format it with NTFS and try to load the Acer recovery discs again.
2. If that won't work, try to use a retail copy of Windows and check if it fully install Windows. If it does, try to create a duplicate copy of your Acer recovery discs, it might just be faulty and try again.

Good Luck.

I formatted my fat partition and now all my songs are gone

Hello
Formatting a partition of hard disc will wipe out all the data stored in it. There is now way to retrive the data from the formatted drive. You may have to backup the data before formatting. Now all lost have been lost for ever. OK.

How do you go about to format a toshiba l650 and reinstall windows 7

Hi! If you have the Windows 7 disc just insert it restart the computer. It will boot directly from the disc. Then follow the step by step instructions here.
If you don't have the Windows 7 disc, you have two ways to reformat your Toshiba computer.
Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition
In case of a hard disk drive failure, you may be able to restore the drive to the factory default state using the on-disk Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility (in a special partition on the hard disk drive).
You can select restoring the entire hard disk drive to the factory default state, or restoring only the C: drive -- without affecting other partitions (for example, a D: drive) -- or changing the size allocated to your C: drive, and then restore it.
To recover your hard disk drive from a system failure using the utilities stored on your computers HDD, follow these steps:
  1. If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard and then press the computers power switch. When the computer turns on, the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting three options:

Sample TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen

Restore Original Factory Image (Recommended)
CAUTION:
Restoring a hard disk drive to its factory default state deletes all partitions on the hard disk drive and all data stored on those partitions. All of your files and information will be lost! Be sure to back up all important files first.
  1. Press 1 to restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all data will be overwritten and lost during the restore process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating the HDD has been restored.
  3. Press any key to restart the computer.
* The options 2 & 3 are for advanced users.
Hard Disk Drive Recovery using Recovery CDs or DVDs
You may also wish to to run the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from Recovery CDs or DVDs that you have created.

Insert the first Recovery CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive, and turn on the computer. Once the computer is running, the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting the same three options above. Again Press 1 to
restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. Click Yes to begin the recovery. Press any key to restart the computer.

Installing Drivers and Applications
The TOSHIBA Application Installer allows you to reinstall the drivers and applications that were originally bundled with your computer.
To reinstall drivers and applications:
  1. Double-click the "Toshiba Application Installer" icon on the Windows desktop. This utility may also be launched by clicking Start -->All Programs --> Hard Disk Recovery Utilities.

    htd7c02140000r0136067.jpg

  2. Click "Next".
  3. Click the item(s) you wish to install. To select multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key as you click your selections.
  4. Click "Install".
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.

Hope this helps.

How to install linux fedora 7, already i am using windows 7, now i want to use dual os's , please tell me how to install linux.

WARNING: I will not be responsible for any data loss that occurs. It is recommended to backup your hard disk to external media before commencing any of these operations. 1. Download and burn the Fedora LiveCD. It is recommended that you use the latest version, Fedora 14, instead of 7, but you can use Version 7 anyways. 2. Boot up with the Fedora LiveCD. Select Install. 3. Follow the instructions displayed onscreen. When you reach the partitioning screen, you will need to resize your Windows partition. Resize it to a reasonable size (1024MB =1GB). Leave at least 5GB for Fedora to install. 4. After resizing, select the "Use Free Disk Space" option, and continue installing. 5. Your system will be installed with Fedora and the GRUB bootloader. The GRUB bootloader will allow you to boot into both Windows and Fedora.
I hope this post helps you. I appreciate your vote very much!

Going to reset my computer. Where can I find the reset button?

If you're trying to restore the Computer to factory settings, then you can use the VAIO Recovery Center that is shipped with the Computer.

NOTES:
  1. Click the Start button, then click Help and Support . NOTE: If the Help and Support link is not available on the Start menu, re-enable the link in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window.
  2. In the Windows Help and Support window, click Backup & Recovery .
  3. Under Backup & Recovery , under VAIO Recovery Center , click Launch VAIO Recovery Center .
  4. In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program , click to select the desired option: NOTES:
    • It is strongly recommended that recovery discs be created to help restore files if the operating system will not start. Recovery discs are bootable and can be used to perform a recovery on a properly functioning hard drive.
    • The Windows Backup and Restore option opens the Backup and Restore Center provided with the Windows Vista® operating system. This provides the ability to save information from the hard drive, such as personal data files, and restore previously backed up data.
    • Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics option.
    • One or more drivers or factory-installed applications may be reinstalled with the Reinstall Programs or Drivers option.
    • The entire (C:) drive can be restored to its original, factory-installed condition by selecting Restore C: Drive .
    • Choosing Restore Complete System will restore the entire (C:) drive, while removing or restoring the Recovery Drive partition. Modifying the size of the hard drive partitions is also an option with this type of recovery. This option requires you to insert Recovery DVDs created using the Create Recovery Discs option.
    • To remove all data from the hard drive, including the operating system, all programs and personal data, choose the Wipe and Erase Data option. This option is provided for the convenience of advanced users who want to install a different operating system, and who want to ensure all data has been removed from the hard drive first. All other users are strongly urged to avoid selecting this option.

The system is originally designed to use IDE HDD, make sure the necessary chages for Sata HDD are made in the BIOS, next make sure the Recovery disc is fine without any scratches. You can order a new Windows OEM recovery disc by calling Dell tech support (1-800-624-9896-US) and try installing the OS. The disc will cost you not more than $12.
