FOR WIN VISTA:

Windows Vista's AutoPlay options are a great improvement over Windows XP in terms of flexibility, but unfortunately there are so many options that it can be confusing, especially since there's no specific mention of USB Flash drives in the options.
Open your Control Panel, and then click on "Play CDs or other media automatically" to open the AutoPlay dialog.

Disable AutoPlay in Windows Vista

Windows Vista's AutoPlay options are a great improvement over Windows XP in terms of flexibility, but unfortunately there are so many options that it can be confusing, especially since there's no specific mention of USB Flash drives in the options. Open your Control Panel, and then click on "Play CDs or other media automatically" to open the AutoPlay dialog. Disable AutoPlay Globally. The quickest way to disable AutoPlay entirely is to just uncheck the box for "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices", which should usually work.

Hi there, I formatted the goflex because the seagate software was acting up in the vista 64x machine I'm using and was forcing me to use the seagate software without allowing for me to drag/drop and...

  1. In My Computer, right click on the drive you want to AutoPlay (it will not display if it is not plugged into your computer) and select AutoPlay.
  2. Choose the best option for you and press OK. Remember, there are several options available, including playing Media Files, copying pictures to your drive or if you have a program installed that can AutoPlay (autorun) such as PortableApps.com Menu from PortableApps.com. If you need to reset your options, just follow these instructions again!

And that's it!

I have a problem with my 512 mb PQI fash drive

Hi. How do you open a flash drive anyway? Cause me... I'll just right click the drive then click the "Explore" menu and thats the way to avoid virus menu like the Autoplay(once you double-click the drive, it wont open 'cause it has an extra Autoplay menu}. By the way, does your PC virus-free?Try to check the drive by right-clicking the drive. If you see two Autoplay menus and the other Autoplay is highlighted or the font is thick, your PC surely has a virus. You must remove it first.
Or try to go to do this:
Contol Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management and look for the drive. Right-click it and click the Open or Explore menu.
I hope I help you with this kind of suggestion.

  14. Repeat the above procedure on any additional CD Rom Drives you have in your system.
  15. Note: If you feel you have made a mistake, you can click on the Restore Defaults icon at any time.
You can also double click "My Computer" then click the drive letter the cd/dvd is in. If nothing still happens it may be a failing or broken cd/dvd drive. Ensure that the cd's are clean and free of any major scratches.

Hope this helps you out
Jei.

Logitech G7 cordless laser mouse - erratic action

Acting on advice from another FixYa string, we blew out the mouse and dock several times with canned air. It performed slightly better, but then as we continued to use the mouse it suddenly cleared and is working almost 100% now.

From reading earlier strings, I'm wondering why Logitech (in its product material received on purchase) doesn't recommend this as periodic maintenance for the mouse?
