I have an Acer Aspire 4520, when you hit the power button, the lights light up for one second (or less) then go off, does the same with or without Ram/Power/HD/battery, the cooling fan is clean, and it doesn't say on long enough for the fan to kick in, It only stays on for about .5 seconds. No HD sound, no fan sound, just the LED's light, then Nothing.
IT COULD NVIDIA DISPLAY IC PROBLEM,GET IT REPLACED.

Power button on,battery lights on,fan is running still there is no display.ive try re open the ram and put it back, negative.
I had this same problem with my Acer 4520. I took the ram out and took an eraser and cleaned the contacts. Also before that I cleaned and put heat paste on the CPU. Cleaning and putting new heat paste on the CPU and heatsink got the laptop to come on but the laptop would shut down until I cleaned the ram contacts. Perhaps the repasting of the CPU had been not needed. When I took the heatsink off I didn't want to have to fully disassemble the laptop so I just bent the heat pipe going to the heatsink. Who knows how much affect this will have on heat dissapation but I'm a little sloppy like that sometimes but the laptop is now working great.
When it come with acer. They used cheap fan. The fan easily jam. sometime the fan still spinning but it give power error so it could not start the notebook.
To solve this, replace the fan.
Damn Acer!! made in China in low quality.
