Another waterlogged 12" PowerBook story

I have a 12" aluminum G4 Powerbook that was exposed to a watered down soda that was apparently knocked over when the computer was in sleep mode overnight. I understand the extensive damage that may have resulted because it was on. After drying thoroughly for several days and restarting, the fan and power come on, but the screen does not. The caps lock key does light up but the screen does not, nor do I hear the drives spin up. I tried resetting PRAM/NVRAM and as well tried to start it in Target/firewire mode and from OS X DVD to no avail. Any more suggestions before I part it out and hopefully get the hard drive out to recover the data if possible?

Sounds like you have done all you can. The hard drive should be ok and still work in an external case so you can transfer the data to a new machine. Good luck!

Reset button on a powerbook g4

The Powerbook G4 power button functions like a reset button if you hold the power button in for a few seconds until the computer powers down.
  1. Hold the power button in for a few seconds (until you see the screen turn off/go black and hear the fans & hard drive stop spinning).
  2. Press the power button again to turn your computer on.
  3. If you have more trouble, you may need to boot in Safe Mode or "perform a Safe Boot":
Press and hold down the "Shift" key immediately after you hear the start-up tone. Release the "Shift" key when the gray Apple icon appears on the screen.

Restore CD

You don't need a "restore" cd.

You can just use any copy of Tiger.

Borrow one!

When typing it writes number 9 all the time

How often? Can you make it happen on demand?
Acquire any other USB keyboard, and plug it into a USB port on your PowerBook. Use this keyboard for a while. If you don't see the problem, then I suspect some sort of short in your keyboard cable, or perhaps a spill in the keyboard itself.
PowerBook G4 keyboards are very easily replaced, without opening up the laptop itself.
