Do your service provider limits number of ip address (10.10.10.10) you can have? if they provide only one, you would need to use a router to share one public ip address. Sometimes it records the network address of your network device (00:00:00:00), and won't give u another ip if the device changed. If you have two routers in your network, turn off the dhcp on the second router, and use LAN ports and do not use the WLAN on the second router. if you want to manage the second router, give it an static ip from the first router. Bad port? Bad cable? Modem => router => PC/IPOD/switch or modem => router => PC/IPOD/Switch/ 2nd Router without dhcp and no WLAN ) Good luck

Please check in the Network connection whether the Connection status shows Limited/Local only.
If in case the it shows Limited Only, then follow the steps:
1) Unistall Network Driver and restart then Reinstall the Network Driver.
2) Installed Updated Driver from the Manufacture Site. restart.
3) This should resolve the issue. If the connection status show Connected/ Internet. Then Configure the Wireless connection, by accessing the Router. Check the Router configuration and computer's configuration,.

When I connect my router i lose internet connection, even though my modem still shows connectivity. I have followed the instructions to connect the router to my computer and the modem to the router. Any...

firstly, connect your modem to the router and your pc to the router. Next, reboot your PC. try to access the net. If you now can, great. If not, you may need to switch on DHCP and NAT in your modem. DHCP means Dynamic Host Control Protocol and NAT means Network Address Translation. Both of these services are required to allow your PC to access the net through your router. I am assuming that you have a modem and a separate network switch. If you have a modem and the router is another modem with a network switch built in, then you cannot use them both at the same time. If the router has a modem built in, remove your old modem and set up the router according to its manual. Entering your ISP login details either through the routers setup software or through the routers own browser page. The manual for the router will tell you how to do this. If the router is a netwrok switch, then you will need to log into your modems browser page and turn on DHCP and NAT. Then save and reboot the modem and reboot your PC. Once everything has rebooted, go into your control panel, Network connections and check that a valid connection has been made. If yes, then access the net using your browser. If no, try the Network Setup Wizard to repair or replace the existing setup with an updated one. Just run through the wizard choosing the correct or most appropriate options from the menu's..

New mini computer says"acquiring network address" shows contected to netgear but won't access the internet

It means your router dhcp is not running proeprly.
You can set ip addreses manually.

for that go to my network places proeprty then you see your network adapter right click on it then go t oit's property then tcp ip .
Set ip addreses , subnet mask and gateway.

set your ip addreses if your router ip is 192.168.1.1 then you can set your computer ip is 192.168.1.2
subnetmask as 255.255.255.0
and set gateway as your router ip means 192.168.1.1

you can access your router with default link
http://192.168.1.1
or http://192.168.0.1

type user name a s"admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password"

then check its ip and settings.

I have a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem a Netgear mr814v2 wireless router, I obtain the ip address on router status but for some reason my internet communication losed. I verified the configuration...

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

Netgear wgt624 just stopped connecting to internet

I encountered the same problem, with the same modem and also Comcast, and here's what wound up working for me, after time spent with a nice guy on the Netgear customer support line:

1. Log into router: http://192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) - user: admin / password: password

2. Under Maintenance, click Router Status. If IP Address is listed as 0.0.0.0, there's your problem-- router isn't getting address from modem.

3. At bottom of Basic Settings, under Router MAC Address, change selection from Use Default Address to Use Computer MAC Address.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click Router Status again-- non-blank IP address should now be listed.

6. Basic Settings will now show MAC address under Use This MAC Address. See if you can get online now. I could, and I hope you can, too!

Unable to detect my router

This is because your router is setting your pc at a different IP address than your original modem. Make sure router is set to enable DHCP which gives out an automatic ip address and check your wireless card and network cards are set to obtain ip address automatically. It may take a few re-starts to get on the internet as your systems will need to clear their previous DNS settings. Also i assume you have set up the home network wizard (XP) as you are now using a router and not a direct modem. Also try Start>Run, then type ipconfig /flushdns then press enter.
