Dell printer AIO printer A960 will not print in black ink. Bought new ink cartridge but after the align page prints it says error need to remove tape. There is no tape on it and have tried several different times, clean it, and bought new cartridge still won't print. Help! Color ink prints.

A lot of inkjet printer manufacturers make you purchase their ink cartridges by installing a chip in the cartridges so when the cartridge is empty it cannot be reused by filling the cartridge.

Hi,

Remove the cartridges and clean the contacts ( electrical contacts - golden colored ) with a lint free cloth and re-install them back in the printer.

Try this and check if it prints the test page.

Ink Cartridge Maintenance Replacing an Ink Cartridge

1. Turn on your printer.
   
   
2. Lift the printer unit, and position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.
   
   

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

1. Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise the ink cartridge lid.
   
   

1. Remove the old ink cartridge.
   
   

1. Dispose of the old cartridge properly.
   
   
2. If you are installing a new ink cartridge, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of the ink cartridge.
   
   

1. Insert the new ink cartridge.
   
   

1. Snap the lid closed.
   
   

1. Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until it is completely closed.
   
   

Aligning an Ink Cartridge You may need to align the ink cartridge when characters are not properly formed or are not aligned at the left margin, or when vertical or straight lines appear wavy.
To align the ink cartridge:

1. Load plain paper. For more information, see Loading Paper.
   
   
2. In Windows XP, click Start® Control Panel® Printers and Other Hardware® Printers and Faxes.
   
   

In Windows 2000, click Start® Settings® Printers.

1. Right-click the Dell AIO 810 icon.
   
   
2. Click Printing Preferences.
   
   

The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.

1. Click the Maintenance tab.
   
   
2. Click Align Print Cartridge.
   
   
3. Click Print.
   
   

A blue and black alignment page prints.

1. After the alignment page has finished printing, place the page face-down on the scanner glass. Make sure the upper left corner of the front of the page aligns with the arrow on the printer.
   
   

1. Press the Scan button .
   
   

The page is scanned. When the scan is complete, the cartridge is aligned. You may discard the alignment page when the alignment is complete.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Also remove the power brick for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages you get from the printer. Plug everything back in and power on the printer. Take out the Dell black cartridge and reseat it. Put it back in and do the same for the color cartridge. When you close the printer it should try to print an alignment page.

Make sure the contacts where the cartridge goes in are clean. A cloth dampened with water should be all right. You might also try installing a different cartridge. If that doesn't solve your problem, then your printer has an internal problem.

try to align the catridge ..goto printer panel and select align cartridge..and print again ..pls let me know if it solve the problem..

Have you reset the ink levels for your printer? Some printer software refers to it as that others ask if you have installed a new cartridge.

 

Do maintenance on the printer, such as clean heads, print test page, head alingment, etc and see if that fixes it. You can get to all these options through properties

i was having these same exact problems then i looked at my old ink cartridge and saw that the blue tape was off and that i hadnt taken it off my new one i was trying to print with.!!!

go to dell AIO center

click maintain/troubleshoot on the top

under trouble aio problems - click ink levels

click maintenace tabs

and then clean print cartridges and align print cartridges. then try printing a test page.

if this does not work, remove the cartridges and install them again.
