Please try the following

1) Start Laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a startup menu is repsented
3) Choose safe mode from the menu
4) Once safe mode has loaded up click on Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Restore
5) From system restore choose 'restore my computer to an earlier time'
6) From the calender presented please select a dat in bold lettering back a few weeks before this fault was seen
7) Choose the date and click next..............follow the instructions through

If the system restore fails as above then unfortunatley you will need to purchase a copy of windows and reinstall by putting the CD into the drive and rebooting the laptop

How to install windows xp in msi k8mm-v motherboard?

Hi dharmen_shah,
I see that you need to install Windows XP on you Dekstop with an MSI Motherboard k8mm-V.
I have another desktop using the same Motherboard, there are 3 options installing Windows XP on the machine.
  1. Using an IDE Optical Drive
  2. Using a SATA Optical Drive "not a common installation process on this motherboard" since you will need to install the SATA rivers first to be able to use your SATA ODD
  3. Using a USB Flash Drive
See steps below for each installation type.
*Using an IDE Optical Drive*
  • If you have your Windows XP CD insert it on the Disc Drive restart the system as soon as the system restarts keep on tapping F11 this will bring you to the Boot menu.
  • Once in the Boot Menu screen select your Optical Drive, it may say dvd/cd or ODD, select this and press enter. Note: windows may restart during the installation if it says press any key to boot to cd do not press anything anymore leave it will do everything on it's own unless prompted for any user information like a computer name date and time.
  • You will see on the screen Boot to cd: then it will show "press any key to boot to cd" press Enter or any key this will boot from your cd Windows XP.
  • Then you will see inspecting your hardware for configuration, once it boots to your Windows XP cd you will see a blue screen Loading up drivers and stuff for the installation of Windows XP.
  • Next will be the installation of Windows XP itself, just follow the prompt it is very easy to follow and it will give you all the details and what buttons to click on.
  • Note: Select Quick Format (NTFS) this will be faster reformatting your Hard Drive before installation.

*Using SATA Optical Disc Drive*
  • You will need a 1.4 floppy disc to be able to do this.
  • If you have a 1.4 Floppy Drive you will also need to download the SATA driver from the MSI website.
  • Let us disregard this option since I believe you do no have a 1.4 Floppy Disc Drive and no one uses that or has a 1.4 Floppy Drive anymore on their machines.
*Using a USB Flash Drive*
  • To be able to use a USB Flash Drive for the installation of Windows XP your USB Flash Drive should at least be 1GB or 2GB, 1GB will be enough since windows XP only uses at least 7++gb of disc space for the installer size.
  • Using you USB Flash Drive you will need to copy the whole contents of your Windows XP Cd into your USB Flash Drive, don't worry this will be bootable just make sure that you copy everything from the disc into the USB Flash Drive.
  • Once you have copied Windows XP on your USB Flash Drive insert it to one of your USB ports on the machine then restart the computer.
  • Restart the system as soon as the system restarts keep on tapping F11 this will bring you to the Boot menu.
  • This will be the same as using your Windows XP cd but instead you will need to select USB in the Boot Menu then press enter. on the installation steps it will be the same as installing using a disc.
  • Note: Select Quick Format (NTFS) this will be faster reformatting your Hard Drive before installation.
  • Windows may restart during the installation and using a USB Flash Drive will be different at this point because it will boot directly to the USB, Once it restarts and may repeat the installation all over, to prevent this as soon as the system begins to restart from the installation go and keep on tapping "Delete" once it restarts this will bring you to the BIOS screen press F9 to set it to defaults then press F10 to save and exit this will restart again.
  • Once it restarts after setting the BIOS to defaults let the system boot on its own it will then show you a screen asking what windows to install the first thing highlighted will be the installation that was halted earlier just press enter then it will show you the windows installation page and will continue on it's own.
This is based on my own experience since I have an older Desktop that has the same Motherboard, I hope that I have given you all the options possible to installing your windows XP on your Motherboard k8mm-v.
Have a nice day,

mvincentc

Trying to boot from windows CD and not working

If its the full windows xp cd by booting it from the cd drive it will erase everything and ask if you want to upgrade or advanced install I think. Your correct in choosing the atapi cd-rom as 1st boot device. The cd should be in the drive on startup. IDE is the type of hard disk drive. I'm guessing the FDD stands for floppy disk drive which you might not have that many but you have that many bay windows available.

Put disk in, shut down computer, Start computer and it should give you the xp disk contents. Be aware of data loss though.

Cannot boot up from CD-Rom with Win 95 and Win 98

You probably have a version of windows 98 that was not bootable on CD. You would need to boot from a windows 98 floppy bootup disc, then go the the d:\win98 directory and run setup from there.

How do I re-format Acer 4200 TravelMate hard drive?

Windows Reinstallation Disk option:

Insert Windows Reinstallation disk into tray, Boot to CD/DVD-ROM by pressing F12 at initial boot screens, delete existing Windows partition, re-create partition, and then follow steps to reinstall Windows. This will lead you to an option for formatting hard drive. I recommend choosing the full format versus the quick, from this point you can let windows install, or just shut the computer down when the format finishes. You will have to watch the progress, though, if you don't want the install to commence.

Boot disk option:

For XP, 95, 98, or ME, follow the instructions at this MS article page. It will walk you through creating a boot disk that will allow you to format.

You will need a floppy disk or CD

Boot cd-rom type:cd-rom/non-emulation booting

No, it's because Microsoft changed the way boot CDs work with SP2. You need an old CD (Windows XP SP1). I had the same problem here, notebook without floppy, it won't boot from the newer XP version CDs (SP2 or SP3) - but an old SP1 CD works!
(Those were all original Microsoft CDs, and the SP2 / SP3 CDs boot just fine on several other PCs I tested. It's just that some old hardware has a problem with the boot mode used on newer Windows CDs.)

Acer Aspire 3610 laptop - Windows XP error

on a friend's Windows 98 SE or Windows ME computer, create a floppy "Startup disk". Insert in your pc floppy drive and turn on. If floppy drive was not accessed, then get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from floppy drive" is set prior to "boot from hard drive". Once at first screen, select "Boot with CD-ROM driver". Insert CD-ROM and initiate entire re-install of Windows. Windows may do some self-restarting. At first restart do this: get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from hard drive" is set prior to "boot from floppy drive".
