I cannot get the VHS tapes to play. DVDs play fine. I have a new Sharp Aqous 42" LCD Tv...do not need to hook to Mediacom cable box. I only want to dub VHS to DVDs...

I am using standard white, yellow, red hookups, and/or blue, green, red type. Sorry I do not know the technical name for them. I am pretty sure they r hooked up correctly. The DVDs play fine. When I put in a VHS tape, all I get is a blank screen on the TV with loud static noise. I cannot hook this up to my cable box, as there is only one cable out coneection...no cable in. I do not need it to broadcast tv signals anyway. I only wish to view and dub my VHS tapes to DVD.

I tried to dub a VHS tape to DVD with my above mentioned status, and all that was recorded was the static noise. I also tried to play the Disney movie Aladdin on VHS and it did not come on the tv screen either, so I know it is not the VHS tapes. I do not wish to invest in another dubbing machine if I do not have to. And I do wish to keep the machine to play my DVDs.

I am hoping that my frustratin is due to a very simple, "duhh, how stupid am I?" error. Any suggestions?

I already tried that.....all that comes out on the DVD is the static noise, no picture.

Did that too...still no picture and only static noise on the VHS setting

Hello. Begin by trying a second VHS tape, and then a third. If it still will not work return the TV for one that works.....it is under warranty.

Please explain your hook up so that I can tell you whether its correct and what else you have to do to be able to do this.

Ok. I think I understood what your problem is. But first those red, yellow, white cables are called RCA component cables. Anyways the problem you are facing may be due to the tapes are sticky. This can happen if you haven't used them for a while. Jusf fast forward your tape and rewind them and see if they play. Let me know if it worked so that we can try something else if it didn't.

Ok.. When you connect using an RCA cable you should set the input mode to "Component" on tv. Did you do that too? Also did you try another input like S-video to see if any picture appears?

Problems with Philips vhs recorder/dvd player

You only need coaxial cable to pick up TV stations broadcast via an aerial. If your TV has sockets to connect via HDMI or SCART, then any players can be connected via them. So if the adapter box picks up TV signals, you connect the main aerial cable to that and it should have a coaxial out socket, that should be connected to the aerial in of your TV. If you are recording to an analogue video from the adapter box, then that will need to be connected via a scart socket or other connection.

Can I hook up my Toshiba laptop to my Sharp Aqous TV, if so what connections do I need, ?S-video? I have an SGA connection on my laptop but not on the TV?

If this is the exact model Sharp Aquos television you have then you would have to have a laptop that has hdmi or dvi. You can try S Video on a laptop but the laptop's resolution would have to be so low that most laptops cannot accommodate this. You're right; this television does not have a VGA (RGB cable) input.

We just bought a new 32" panasonic led tv. Hooked everything up and works fine with normal television broadcast. However, we have a Sony DVD/VHS combo hooked up that doesn't perform well. When we play...

If you are using the composite cables (RWY) make sure the red and white are plugged into the audio jacks and NOT the component cable plugs (RGB.) If you have the red audio cable plugged into the red component plug this will cause issues, especially with the sound.

Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Tv/digital converter box & vcr-dvd hook-up

I have a vhs and dvd player all in one
I have a converter box hooked up to my tv and vcr , dvd player combined
I can play my movies on the tv. ok.
you have to have your tv and vcr set on channel 3. if that is what your main tv is set up with. Or 4 if you have your tv set up with that.
Mine plays ok. My settings are for channel 3
My suggestion would be to check your hook ups. maybe they are not hooked up correctly
I had to go to www.google.com and did searches to help with hook up.
I can also record station I am watching with vcr on vsh tapes. I do not have a dvd recorder.
I found out that you have to have 2 converter boxes hooked to one tv., in order to record on on station while watching another. I have not tried that, as I don't have 2 converter boxes for one tv. I found that by doing google search also. Good Luck

Projected image is slightly oversized im 16 Standard Mode

The problem was with my cable providers (Knology) cable box settings. Somehow they had changed to zoom 1. I think this happened when I played a VHS tape. If this keeps happening everytime I play a tape or DVD I'll have to remember to reset the vidio on the cable box after each tape or dvd.
