try compressed air.
more then likely its a hardware issue.
try getting an R4DS card and download games from www.filestube.com if you dont want to repair it.
you can have 50+ games on an sd card and not have to lug around all those games anymore
Look down in the game slot and see if all of the pins are intact. Sometimes one of the pins will get bent or broken which doesn't allow the unit to read the game. A new game slot can be purchased off of ebay, but if you dont' have any experience soldering, I would recommend finding someone that is or take it to a repair shop.
Defecttive Slot 1
Look inside with a litte light. You will almost certainly see bend pins. You son has almost certain play with someting sharp inside the connector.
Slot1 must be replaced
I could not find anyone that sold these connectors anywhere. I ended up buying a DS or DS lite motherboard on eBay for cheap. I was able to replace the game slot connector.
Pay attention when you dissassemble your console. Especially the whay the rear buttons and the pins fit. Also, be careful when you pull the 2 housings apart. I accidentally damaged my power button switch and had to replace that as well. Other than that and the soldering it was very easy to do.
The part with the damaged pins is the slot-1 port. I know it seems rediculous, but this part is too impractical for most people to attempt a repair.
However, if you are savvy enough to attempt the repair of the damaged pins on your DS Lite, here are my recommendations: 1) Cut a flap in the slot-1 port cover and straighten pins.
2) Replace the main board. 3) Remove the slot-1 port cover and straighten pins. 4) Remove the damaged pins from the slot-1 port and straighten. 5) Replace the slot-1 port.
All of these recommendations require disassembling the DS Lite using a specialized triwing (or Y) screwdriver and a lot of patience. The following video will help in disassembly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQlTpTLUyFQ.
Recommendations 3 to 5 all require solder work. Recommendation 3 requires solder work for 4 solder joints, 1 at each corner. Recommendation 4 requires solder work for up to 17 solder joints, one for each damaged pin. Recommendation 5 requires solder work for all 21 solder joints.
The DS Card Slot may be loose. If so, try not to touch the game card while playing.
Or, there may be a piece of dust or lint in the card slot. If you can see the lint, pick it out with clean tweezers. If you cannot see it, ask a mechanic to open the Ds and pick the dust out.
had this problem, i looked into where the game goes and one of the little metal teeth was bent, so i took a long toothpick and gently pushed it back over now it works fine. Be careful that you dont break it off though.
