Hi
one thing with GX series is that there were multiple network adapters used. if this is the onboard i would try this driver from dell's site.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R54402&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2811&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=5&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=64589

if you dont have internet access on your gx260, youll need to download to another computer and then transfer it by flash drive or external hard drive.

once you have the driver on your gx260, then;

1. If you installed any of the network management utilities from dells site, uninstall those.
2. in device manager, find your network card, click on it and then remove it from the device manager.
3. shutdown completely (not just a restart) and then power up. all the new hardware prompts to come up and hit cancel to any of them.
4. find the dell driver package R54402.EXE, from wherever you have saved it to on flash drive, external hard drive or gx hard drive. double click on it to run.
5. once the installation is finished, reboot again.
If this doesnt solve it then there are several other drivers, but this is the most commonly used one.
If you still have problems with it, then reply in here and can help you further.

Hope this helps. and if it does, please dont forget to rate.

Go to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
There are 3 different drivers for your GX260. You may have to try all 3 before you get the right one working for you. By the way the link is to Dell driver downloads. Just put in your model and model number and you will get a list of all the possible drivers from dell for your computer. Hope this helps.

What ethernet driver do I need for dell optiplex gx260. There is no ethernet card. Just a slot for the enthernet cable.

check the Device Manager,
Go to Desktop/My Computer/Right Click/Properties/System Properties/Hardware Tab/Device Manager/look for Network Adaptor/ Expand it by clicking the + sign/Do u c any Ethernet Adaptor there or any yellow ? mark there....

If u dont c any Netwrok Adaptor then u dont have a network card installed in ur PC, if u have one then it will show up there, and if u dont ahve the correct driver or if's not installe dproperly then u will have the yellow ? amrk or an ! mark....
then in that case u will need the corect driver for the card to work....normaly Windows installs the required drivers for netwrork cards.....

Here is a link to the network drivers for the GX260. There are 3 options for ethernet drivers, one by Dell and two by Intel. You will need to try each to see which one works.

I have decided to replace my network card on my optiplex gx260, due to yellow ? & inability to connect to the internet. went through all the driver search business without sucess. opening the box, I don't...

The ethernet port is integrated on your unit. You should just have to install the new card (and drivers) and plug it in. You can however go into the device manager and disable the onboard if you wish but it shouldn't be necessary.
