Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

sitaramjava, Problem not new one!!! When lcd screen goes "black" point bright flashlight (torch) 1" (3-4cm) from lcd panel to determine if you can still see desk-top icons!!! If icons are visible, unit SMPS is in partial shutdown mode. If not visible then SMPS is in full shutdown mode. You or qualified CCFL back-lit lcd monitor technician will need to make repair to units internal SMPS/ CCFL inverter supply. Your monitor isn't any different than any other brand in it's basic design and operation!! After two years, it will more likely to have failed caps in the power supply, common problems in ALL monitors these days, theymade them to fail after a couple years, does not matter what brand, see examples here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

I can confirm the number 3 solution. I have fixed a bunch of these now.
Replace capacitor C202, 680uf 25V. It is usually visibly damaged. It should be a low impedance type, often known as "suitable for switch mode power supply".Even yesterday.

1. You can see images on the screen for a few minutes. That means there is nothing wrong with your computer.

2. When your screen goes blank, if you disconnect and then reconnect the monitor, it shows fine again for a few minutes before going blank (or dim) again. That means the problem is not with you video card.

3. It always shows the image after reconnection for exactly a few minutes before going blank again. yes? this means that there is nothing wrong with your cable.

Conclusion: Sorry, but you do not have many options. I bleieve that the problem is with your monitor that's going bad. Its far cheaper to get it replaced than to repair it.

I have to say Mac's I know nothing about. But the simple way would be to purchase a universal USB card reader- and use that.
