HLS should stand for high limit switch(control) this model does show one in the parts diagram.

I got this error when I had increased my air pressure to 5.5 lbs. Cut the pressure back to 4.5 and it has been running fine for the last three hours. At 5.5 it got WARM ... solid red hot cone and flames coming around the outside. Had been having problems with it cutting off for no apparent reason in really cold weather. Took the pump apart and cleaned it and checked for clearances and reassembled but it did not help much. Will schedule it for a total pump replacement with new filters asap. Pump parts and filter are not that bad. Should come in under $50.00
Hope this helps
I also turned the thermostat back a little off of full on.

Heater Code is flashing HLS open What is this?

High Limit Switch, look for a bimetal disc somewhere near the elements and apparently this is a manual reset. Should be red button in between two wires on a flat round disc.

Always turn power off when attempting electrical

Heater used once 3 yrs ago. Now wont start.

When the heater hums is the fan turning. If it is I would add more Kerosene. There is no shut off but the Kerosene is sucked out a tube from the top of the tank. This tube does not reach quite all the way to the bottom of the tank. Your heater should hold about 9 gallons if it is empty. A couple of gallons would give it plenty to run though. Let me know.

Mr. Heater Natural Gas Garage Heater - 45,000 BTU. Power 120 volt and 24 volt good. Thermostat calling for heat, but nothing happening??

Check for a fuse either in-line or on the circuit board. There should be 24 volts going to the thermostat. If not, you have either a bad transformer or a bad thermostat wire. Jump out the terminals that the thermostat wires are connected to. This should force the unit to fire. If not, bad circuit board.
