I have a new Kohler 12kw res generator on propane - backfiring

Guessing a sticking inlet valve or slipped timing.

The two things I would check are the muffler for a blockage and also the ignition coil could be defective.

This is a timing issue. Check the flywheel to make sure that it is not loose and that the woodruff key is still present.

Check the inlet fuel pressure, on exervise there is no load, when power is out it is loaded and demands more fuel. Also check for bugs blocking gas regulators vents etc

That is a car not a motorbike. Bikes only have 2 wheels. But you may want to set up the cam and ignition timing. it is only timing that will cause backfires.

You did not say what fuel you running the motor on??? It sounds like it may be LPG or Propane.... is so then it seems as though you do not have enough surface for evaporation...

my 15 hp kohler engine backfired while i was using it, now it wont crank and backfires thru carb

Try changing the spark plug.
