I bought an HP Scanjet G4050 as recommended (by John Lewis?s) for use with my new Macbook Pro laptop bought at the same time. This was somewhat over a year ago, and I have used the scanner lightly, but yesterday it seemed to have stopped producing scanned images at all. I have been through the routine many times and each time tell it where I want the image saved, but when I go there afterwards, there is no image there at all. No error message is produced. Just no image. I thought it might be connected with my attempt yesterday to initiate scanning through Photoshop: File/import/ HPScanPro/ Twain etc, which led to an impossibly long warm-up period, so I tried to quit the warm-up after about 5 minutes, and that quitting attempt seemed to produce undesirable results eg Photoshop deciding to open automatically on starting up the laptop, and quitting unexpectedly when used to initiate scanning. I have eliminated the auto-opening via 'System Preferences'. But I sense that all is not well. Previously I have used a Scanjet 4570c with a PC for years, always initiating scanning via Photoshop with no problems at all, and the whole operation was delightfully simple and stable, but now, with the G4050 in combintion with the Mac laptop it all seems just so difficult. Hope you can help.

and press Ok". but I took it that you meant: "select 'Scanner Output'. This worked the first time I tried it, (when I had chosen to produce an image file) but not the second time when I had chosen to produce a pdf file. It just wasn't there, as previously. And in any case, even if it does work, why can't I just choose where I want the image? Why do I have to do go to the trouble of moving the image to where I want it? I have tried your suggestion.
