Liteon dvd recorder won't play or record from disk or cable tv

Liteon dvd recorder model lvw-5006.
Only coaxial and r-w-y connections into tv.
Do I need rf modulator?

You should be able to connect with the AV input, Y, Video R, W. Audio, they go to same color on DVD & TV.

Gee I said NO... and I thought you wanted to know how to connect the DVD to the TV?... An RF Modulator... Hmmmmm maybe the question wasn't couched properly? Some people are never pleased... Ho Hum...

There is a capacitor on the power supply board that needs to be changed, if memory serves me it is a small 220uf capacitor, the recommended replacement is 470uf capacitor with a higher voltage rating.

Do i need remote

Yes you can't finalize without a remote.These units use a RM 51 remote.You can find one ebay or you can get a new one at Litetrekinternational.

Liteon 5045 problem in playing normal movie DVD's

The DVD drives are very unreliable and just get more temperamental with age. I replaced mine with a Lite-On SOHW-1213S. The DVD is too big to fit in the old ones place so it sits on top of the unit with the cable going through the slot, but it works brilliantly.

Unreadable disk error

The laser in 5101 could be defective or maybe just dirty.Try cleaning with a commercial cleaning disc,put a drop of rubbing alcohol on cleaning brushes.When this happens sometimes it will still be a usable disc but not always.Try putting in another dvd player or recorder or your PC if it plays dvds,the readers in PC are of a better quality and will often read discs that those cheap dvd readers can't.
R+ or R- discs need to finalized after recording RW+and RW- discs do not.It is always a good policy to finalze the second your recording is finished otherwise it may not play in other players or recorders.
When you make a recording in a dvd recorder an it doensn't recognize the disc it just recorded it quite often has a defective laser.This particular model has been plagued with early laser failure.
