Question about GE 30 in. JGP337 Gas Cooktop

2 Answers

I have a GE Gas Cooktop . The left side ignitors spark and light the burners. The right side burners do not spark, but the gas flows and those burner can be lit with a match. I have swapped out the sparking units - they all work on the right side. They all don't work on the left side. I replaced the spark module - still doesn't work. The only thing left is wiring and the harnesses don't appear to have anything wrong with them. Plus, isn't it kind of unlikely that the wire is the problem? One other bit of information - the new spark module does not have a spot for the ground wire. Now I am confused - The colors of the wires on the replacement piece do not match my wiring.

It is a correct part - GE replaced the orginal part and included a note with the new part.

As your first check revealed that the right ignitor had failed and the wiring was OK because the problem went with the ignitor, I suggest that you do not need to look any further than the replacement ingnitor.

(You initial tests proved everything was working except the ignitor) . As unlikely as it sounds, check out the new ignitor. Is it the correct one? (you mentioned differences in wiring).

It is dead?

Trust in yourself! your initial diagnosis was correct.

The igniter on the right front burner of my GE Gas cooktop does not work....I must use a lighter or match to ignite....What can I do? There is no clicking sound when I turn on the burner?

the very first thing i would do here is to check the ignitor itself
under the head cap you should see two screws, once those are out you will be able to lift the burner plate, lift the burner plate, you will see, or should see the ignitor, and the wire.
i check this for voltage by unplugging the ignitor and olding the wire close to a ground, the metal body is good. Turn on the ignitor, becareful it is live. yhou shgould see a spark comming from the wire
if not check to make sure that wire is in position and on the spark module
if you do see a spark this way, just order the replacement ignitor
and install it when it arrives

GE Cooktop burner doesn't click or light.

Remove all the burner heads and lift the top. Sometimes easier said than done. How do you know it is the module? It could be a cracked insulator on the ignitor. To verify you can swap two of the connections on the module and if it lights then it is the module.

Dead burner on kitchenaid gas cooktop?

it is strange that you have no gas and no spark! if you held a match to the burner and turned the burner valve on it would lite di spite a failed ignitor, but for it not to lite, the burner valve[its what the knob attaches too] would have to be blocked[thats rare]or ........i got it .....the knob is broken.thats the only thing the burner valve and the spark ignitor have in common.try a knob from another burner................again.you have spark, because others are working.spark on troubled burner would work if valve blocked at orifice outlet, and if spark failed you would still get gas they work independent of each other,[but in unison].thats why im thinking knob.its the item that works both .when you turn the knob it opens the gas valve and as the gas valve rotates by turning the knob it activates or turns the spark switch so it closes the curcit allowing the electricty to the spark moduel.hey i hope that helps a little. God bless ,tom

Kenmore Elite 30" gas cooktop installed. Large right front burner

There are a series of holes in the burner leading down from the main flame area to the pilot tube, ensure the holes are not plugged/restricted.

It is not a GE but it is a Jenn-air

It's either a bad spark module or switch.
