"general mail failure in Excel 2003 when trying to send attachme

When an Excel 2003 worksheet is open and the option File/Send to/ Mail recipient ( as attachment ) is taken the error message "general mail failure" appears. The user in question is using a Windows XP SP3 desktop with Office 2003 SP3 installed in a Microsoft Exchange environment . I have tried these fixes which I have found on the internet without success:-
(1) detect and repair
(2) uninstall and reinstall office 2003
(3) fixmapi.exe
(4) rename mapi to mapiold and restarted the application
(5) rename Excel.xlb and restart the application .
The user's mailbox is not full and I have turned off Windows firewall just in case this might be causing the issue issue. Has anybody any other suggestions ?

Hi Thanks again but still no joy. I could not remove Windows XP SP3 as the installation was with an XP SP3 disc. It was not upgraded to SP3. The Windows Firewall is off. I do not know what you meant by " the security software that u have for ur computer would take over the windows security and firewall so u can check the firewall setting for the software " . How do I check the security settings for the software. I have also noticed that this problem is also occuring with Microsoft Word . When I try and send a Word document as an attachment to a mail recipient I get the error message :- " Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure "unspecified error". Thanks again but have you any more suggestions ?

Hi,

Hope this works :

Close Excel first and check out if Outlook or Outlook Express/Windows Mail is your mail program for Office.
Start>Settings>Control Panel....Internet options (Program Tab)
In Vista : Start>Default programs
Controls to send mail might be missing missing or disabled or there are errors when you try to mail.

when u get this error message "General Mail Failure " The "E-mail" command is missing or is unavailable, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918792/en-us

for excel 2003 chek the registry for errors

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834008

hope it works ......

    Hi

Im sorry that it did not work for u but we will do something to make it work .I have few questions to ask, u have tried turning the windows firewall but the security software that u have for ur computer would take over the windows security and firewall so u can check the firewall setting for the software .This can block the access to EXCEL ....and not to forget that there has been instances that sp3 might cause problems in xp s u can try remo ving it as u cal always download it again ...U can try these steps first and if it does not work i will come up with more trobleshooting steps

Excel Corruption files

Without seeing the file, it is difficult to diagnose what is going on, but I will offer some ideas.

What version of Excel are you using? Are you using Excel 2003? Was the file you are trying to open created in Excel 2007 or Excel 2010. If so, it might be using the new format and therefore will not open in Excel 2003 and older.

It is possible the Excel file is data that was imported from a source in which Excel cannot import. Does the Excel spreadsheet contain any imported data?
Try to use: XLSX Viewer Tool here : http://www.xlsx.viewertool.com/
Those are the most likely causes of the corrupt data. Is every file you open in Excel corrupt, or just this one workbook? If it is just this one workbook, then, yes, it sounds like it is corrupted. If every file you open with Excel is corrupt, then your version of Excel could be corrupt, but that is unlikely.

How do I attach photos to yahoo mail?

First, the photo must be saved as a file you can open on your computer.

Next, open your Yahoo mail account and click Compose. When the new email screen opens, type in the recipients and a subject just like any other new email you want to send. At the bottom of the screen [next to the Send button] click on the paperclip icon. Then browse to the file you want to attach & click open.

After the file becomes attached, click Send.

How do I email photos from my dell computer?

A simple process to e-mail photos from any computer using windows is fairly simple. Find the folder with the pictures in them. Then select the pictures you would like to send by pressing the "ctrl" key while left clicking(left mouse button) on each picture you would like to send. Once you have selected the pictures then right click on one of the highlighted pictures and select "send to" and then "e-mail recipient" and then right click. This will bring up a page to send the e-mail using your default e-mail program with the pictures attached. You can then add any remarks, comments ect. and choose who you would like to send the pictures to.

Sending attachments in Outlook 2003

Try saving the document to your local drive first, then send the file as an attachment. When the file is opened from your Outlook, it resides only as a temp file while you are viewing it, then to try to send that temp file, it causes issues with outlook. Save the file first, then send it, but don't try to send the file from the temp view whilst opening the file that is still in another e-mail
