I've noticed that I get a "Print Spooler" Icon in the task bar near the clock on my XP based PC. Double-clicking here brings up a window with all current and waiting print jobs. Just highlight the job/document you want to kill then click cancel. This is the proper way to kill a print job. There should also be a printer icon in your task bar that allows you to send instructions to the printer, it's part of the software that you install with the printer. You can often cancel jobs there too. You may not see these icons if you have the task bar set to hide inactive icons

The print spooler is there to insure your printer prints all jobs sent to it even if the printer is interrupted by lack of paper/ink or power outage. Most printers can't store the whole job in internal memory so the print spooler holds onto it and sends it as the printer needs it.

I need to restart my computer everytime i want to print

Sounds like you have print jobs stuck in the print queue. Try deleting all documents in the queue and resending print job. Some print drivers choak on PDF documents. Try updating the print driver by download it from the manufacturer.

Try deleting printer then re-installing printer and updating the print driver.

I replaced the cartridge of my hp psc 1401, copied the test page that was automatically printed, but now I can't print anything. Copying works OK. I don't get an error message or blinking lights on...

what is the status of print job in the queue? whether it is showing printing or no status in the windows.
if the status is printing you delete all the print jobs and switch off and on .then try print something. if no status is there in the windows then you check whether the printer is off line .try make it online by right click on the printer icon then click on the use printer online.

Cancelled a job and it stays in queue

Cancel all the documents in the print queue, (just do it whether they are actually deleted or not), press "cancel" on button the printer and restart your system and also the printer. If possible, please leave the printer switched off for few minutes and don't forget to use the "Power" button to turn if off or on. This will help your printer to restart new print job, all the jobs on the print queue will be deleted/cleared. Good luck, Thanks for using FixYa.

HP P1005 PRINT JOB SITS IN QUE, WO'T PRINT

Does it show "Printing" or "Spooling" in the job queue window?

Open the Job queue window, then highlight and cancel the print job. Send a small print job to the printer and make sure that the PC and the printer are communicating.

If the failure re-occurs, then clear the queue again and close it and restart i=the queue.

Printer will not cancel print job

Sounds like the printer spool is frozen.

Assuming you're using WinXP and logged in as an administrator (or with admin permissions)

START
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services

Locate the "Print Spooler"
Right click on this and choose "restart"

This will restart the print queue and will probably try to print the job again or delete it properly. If it tries to restart, just right click on the printer job and choose cancel again..

You may need to repeat but that should at least get you back up and running with other print jobs again.

HP photosmart C3180 stops printing

Posted by JACOB I understand that you are unable to print and when ever u try to print the jobs stuck in queue... When we right click on the icon if we see a option use printer online this shows that the printer is offline, if we see a option use printer offline in the list then this shows that the printer is online status. To resolve the issue we have to first clear the job in queue. Open the printer folder and then double click on the HP printer icon this will show the jobs in queue just right click on each job in queue and select cancel to clear the job in queue if there are still jobs in queue we have to performe the restart the print spooler steps by keeping the usb cable disconnected so that all the jobs are clear when the spooler is restarted. One the spooler is restarted just reconnect the usb cable and check if there are any jobs in queue. If there are no jobs in queue we can move ahead an set the print directly settings. Steps to set the print directly settings: Right click on the printer icon and select properties then click on the advance tab and under it select the option print directly to printer and click on apply and Ok to save the settings. Once done try to print to check with the issue. If the issue presists you can try to check with the port settings. Right click on the printer icon and select properties and then click on the ports tab and check if the virtual usb001 port is selected if not select it and click on apply and ok to save the settings if you don't see any usb port check if you have dot4 port in the port list select it and save the setting and try to print this should resolve the issue.. Once done try to print and if the issue presists you can try to refresh the usb ports. This will re-detect the usb drivers for printer and you will be able to print after restarting the computer.
