Dell 3000 beeps twice no video after blue dell logo.

The most possible cause is that RAM isnt attached properly on motherboard, it might loosen up sometimes. So just try to check your motherboard, pull out the RAM carefully from the RAM SLOT & attach it precisely. Hope it will work....

Can I install one (1-gig) memory stick instead of 2 match pairs (only have one) this is to replace two 256 sticks?will it preform at 1 - gig memory

Yes.

The Maximum Total Amount of Ram Memory is 2GB.
(2048MB)
The Maximum Amount for EACH ram slot is 1GB.
(1024MB)

Ram should be installed in Slot 1, when using just one stick of ram.
This is the ram slot closest to the Processor.

The Processor reads ram memory that is installed in Slot 1, first.

This is Dell Support, and the main support page for the Dimension 3000 desktop computer,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3000/en/SM/index.htm

In the list left-click on - Technical Overview

Now click on - System Board Components

Number 1 is Slot 1.

Note*
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate computer hardware components inside a computer.

Work on a table.
After you have opened the computer case, and BEFORE you remove that ram module from it's anti-static protective bag, TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case. (Power unplugged from computer)

This will relieve your body of static.
Ignore the above if you are already aware.

Added 2g to a dell dimension 3000, only 1g recognized

Dell has a really good support site. You log on, enter your service tag number (on the top of side of your PC) and they will tell you exactly how much ram you support, the type of ram needed and how many slots it has. If it was a matching pair then it should be working, unseat it and reseat it, it may not be in all the way. If still don't show then put it back in the old computer and see if it reads it. If not then the RAM stick got damaged during the move. But no doubt you should be able to handle more that 1GB of RAM. Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions.

Dell Dimension 3000

There is an L shaped lever on the back. Press and hold that down and push side panel of case back. It will lift off. When you put it back on just align the slots on the bottom edge and push forward to close it.
