XP Pro install disks can't run when using SATA disks - they lack the corresponding driver. Either create a custom install disk or (if it's possible) configure the disk in the BIOS to act like a PATA.

Factory Restore

Try F9 during boot.. I doubt you repartitioned that small partition when you reformatted the main partition of the drive. Then again, the F9 function might not work anymore, even though the partition is still intact.. From Asus Support:
Using the Recovery Partition(on selected models)
1. Press < F9 > during bootup.
2. Press [Enter] to select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].
3. Select the language you want to recover and click Next.
4. Read the ASUS Preload Wizard messages and click Next.
5. Select a partition option and click Next. Partition options:
Recover Windows to first partition only.
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (25%) and "D" (75%).
6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.

I have Acer aspire 5742 model. It has operating system of Linpus I want to remove it and install windows 7 and Linux os. Please give instructions to do that chirani

You don't have to do anything to remove it actually. If you just format the disk it will be removed (for ever though) so just install the right on it don't even have to boot in Linpus.

Making your laptop Dual boot(that is the term for having two operating systems on a computer) with windows and Linux is a little tricky though.

Basically the whole problem is that windows will wipe your linux if you are not careful and will wipe your boot partition for sure (Windows 7 might not - haven't tried it).

So All you have to do is install Windows. While partitining the disk just take enough space for it and leave enough for the windows - you can wipe the whole disk if you want to. The Linux will need from 4 - 12+ GB of installation space (maybe less if it's live cd and you won't keep files there).
After you have installed your Windows. Just install your favorite Linux distribution in the space left.
If you have any other questions mainly to the Linux installation, I'll be pleased to help you.

Error unitialized corrupt boot structure detected biohd-4 boot path, keep getting this after trying to install windows 7, cant boot disk anymore so cant install windows 7

try repairing the file system using chkdsk with /f switch. However, it is strongly recommended to run this tool only if you have a full data backup
. To do so, click \'Start\' and then \'Run\'. You can then type \'chkdsk /f <drive name>\' in the \'Open\' box and click OK. Here, the drive name should be exactly what is appearing in error message. Alternatively, you can opt for deleting the corrupt partition provided the backup is available. If no good backup exists, you should consider to use a Windows Data Recovery utility. These are powerful and valid Windows partition recovery utilities built to scan the corrupt or deleted partitions and safely recover the lost data. The applications are easy to install and use.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!

Cant install OS BOOTMGR is missing

Usually the installer should have a function to allow you to wipe the disk, or delete partitions.

If it doesn't, and you do not care about the hard disk content, and it is acceptable to wipe out the entire hard disk, you can do so in Linux.

(There is a utility which will do everything for you - Darik's Boot and Nuke, you find it at http://www.dban.org/ . I'm also giving you the "manual" instructions below, though).

Boot with Ubuntu Live, open Terminal, become root with 'su'.

Now you need to know how your disk is "seen" by Linux. Since you only have the one disk and nonexistent disks will fail, we can try all the likely hard disk names. The first command that does NOT fail saying "No such device" is the good one:

fdisk /dev/sda
fdisk /dev/hda
fdisk /dev/cciss/c0d0
fdisk /dev/rd/c0d0
fdisk /dev/ida/c0d0

One of these commands (likely the first or second) will give you a menu ending in "Command (m for help)". type "p" and press Enter to list partitions; there should be only one and it should be a Linux type, probably 83. If it isn't, stop - something's wrong. But it should be.

The first column will say something like "/dev/sda3". Note the number at the end, here "3". You'll likely have "1".

Now type, "d" and press Enter. You'll be asked which partition to delete. Type the same number you saw earlier. Type "w" and Enter to save changes and exit. Type "q" and Enter to exit without changes. The partition can still be recovered, but the disk is now "unlocked".

Reboot and install the OS of your choice. The previous hard disk contents will be permanently lost, and you'll get a shiny new empty partition with a working OS.

You can also erase the disk without using fdisk (but you still need to know how it's named, and for that you can use fdisk) by typing

dd if = /dev/zero of = /dev/sda bs=1M count = 12

Here we suppose the disk turned out to be /dev/sda.

This will write twelve megabytes of zeroes to the beginning of the disk, effectively wiping any OS information there could be there. All disk data are as good as lost. The disk is now, to all installing purposes, a perfect blank. Reboot and install the OS of your choice.

Just for the record, omitting "count" will zealously wipe out the whole hard disk surface, all partitions, all data, irretrievably (except using residual hysteresis detection equipment - doubt if even NSA would take the trouble). This can be handy when decommissioning computers.
