I'm not super computer savvy when it comes to this wireless thing. I just purchased an ASUS Notebook and want to know what I need to purchase to connect to the internet wireless. Any suggestions and/or help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I presume you have internet installed already.
Is it dsl connection you have or via a digital set top tv box, such as SKY or Virgin , I don't know which country you are in, but you will have to find a provider first.

All you need is wireless router and the first connections are :-
1/ Phone line to modem
2/ Modem to router
3/ Router to laptop ( This is a physical, temporary connection, while the wireless part is setup.
4/ Which ever router you buy, follow the instructions carefully

If you need more help, please ask.

Regards - Anthony

I continually loose connection to my wireless connection with my home router and also at hotels I stay at. it will just drop the connection for no apparent reason

Laptops have an internal wireless antenna that receives the signal from the wireless router/access point. The performance of these wireless cards varies widely from manufacturer to manufacturer and sometimes even from model to model in the same brand. Issues effecting reception are distance between laptop to router, obstructions (many commercial buildings use metal studs which can significantly reduce signal strength), electrical interferance and other things.
While there's not really any way to boost the reception of the wireless card in your laptop, you CAN purchase what are called 'hi-gain' wireless cards from various manufacturers such as Netgear, Linksys, and many others. These so called hi gain antennas can pick up a signal from as far away as 1/4 mile in some cases. If you can't figure out what's causing the problem with your laptops' wireless card, purchasing one of these cards might be a good solution for you.
Best of luck! Hope this helps!

Hello I recieved a new Asus K52F for christmas two months ago and since then i have had no problems accessing our home router for internet connection. However just last night it began to act strangely and...

Hello rennlugent, there can be "severals things" that may have cause the Computer to lose the "connection."

  • There may have been a 'change' in the Computer [Configuration Settings], without your 'knowledge'?
  • You may have 'Lost' the {Network File Sharing}, which 'Links' all the Computers to (1) one "Network?"
  • The Computer is at a "Different Local?"
  • It may be a "temporary glitch," do to weather change?
  • The "Signal" may be or was 'weak at the time?"
!Warning:
Installing "New" Programs, or 'any' kind of Software; can 'change "Systems Configurations"

I 'suggest' you check in (2) two areas:
The first is;
  • Click on the "Wireless Network Connection."
  • You may have {Two} on the "Taskbar" _809.jpg
  • See: if you are in "Network Discovery / Sharing [Mode].
  • Go to the "Network" shortcut, from the "Start Menu."
  • Check to make 'sure' you are "Sharing the Network Files."
  • The one from this {picture on the right}, is the "Connection [Status] Icon."
  • The {smaller, on the left, is the "Network Troubleshooting Icon"
  • Check (both); one for your Connection Status?
  • Click, on the other for "Fixing the Network Connection."
!Important: Check to make 'sure' the Connection isn't {Disabled}?

If this information helped? Return and give a "Helpful Rating," please!
Thanks, paul7of9

Can not get wireless connection on asus notebook

Hi,

Try resetting the network adapter.

On the bottom right hand side of the desktop you will see the wireless icon, right click on that ans click on troubleshoot problems. This will reset the adapter and assign an IP address for your your PC.

When its done try to connect to the internet.

If this advice does not help please post back.

Good luck.

My brand New Asus laptop keeps dropping off wireless network

try it on another wireless connection and see how it works. Belkin routers are usually not the best, that's why they are so cheap

If the prob persist on another wireless network than contact ASUS technical support

Asus eee pc 900a wireless connection not working

I've experienced the same problem with my ASUS netbook. Uninstall the wireless hard - remove hardware in control panel, reboot the machine and allow it to auto find the adapter again. This should correct it. If there are still problems verify that you have the most current driver for the wireless adapter, either from Asus, or the wireless adapter chipset manufacturer (i.e. Intel, broadcomm, etc.)

Wireless internet problem

this could be any number of things, but a good thing to try is downloading winsock from microsoft's web site and running it on your laptop. It is an internet setting reset utility that should put all your settings back to default.

hopefully that works for you

Does NEC VERSA LX laptop computer support wireless internet?

This is a pretty old laptop about 10 yrs. It does not come with wireless support. It probably has Windows 98 installed on it.
You might be able to set up wireless via the USB port.

Here are the specs
