Left channels do not work when using surround modes

When using stereo or direct sound mode the sound on the two front speakers is fine. when enabling most of surrond modes the left channels (front and rear) emit noise and distortion and if too loung amp shuts down.
this happens with digtal input or analogue
extra surround and second main front speakers are not installed.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

thanks for the reply. it used to work ok, and it is only just over a year old. not sure on the FM side as I don't think it was used. I have been given this amp, in hope I can get it fixed and use it myself. where I have plugged it up is a bit limited but I will move it and try to connect up to RF. what are the speaker setup modes? is this different to the DSP modes where it used between 2 to 5.1 speakers?

    iain.

How does it behave when you use just FM or speaker setup modes? These would certify the speakers and amps are functioning correctly and then leave us with maybe identifying source issues. Is this a sudden onset problem or has it never or ever worked properly?

Ohhhhhh, so it has NEVER worked for YOU and it needed fixing when you got it. That changes everything. And you don't have the manual??

You can find the manual on Retrevo.com. Just register and download it. You're going to need it to make use of this unit anyway.
Make sure everything is connected correctly.

Look it over and play around with it. Speaker setup needs to be done before anything else. Did you get the microphone that comes with it? If not, go to page 23 and start there.

Onkyo HT S3300 center, left front and rear speaker not working.

check your speaker wiring, make sure both terminals are connected properly. or could just be left speaker is disconnected. and is set in stereo mode which will only play left and right front and Sub, if you have one. try chaning the surround mode to play in multi channel speaker which will send sound to all speakers. i trust your using a Digital audio cable from your source ( cable box, DVD player) if your using analog audio cable you will only get stereo sound, and nothing will ever come out of the rear speaker unless you change the surround mode to multi- channel speaker. also in the setup menu you should be able to perform a speaker setup, make sure all your speakers are able to produce sound. follow speaker setup mode in menu, make sure you have checked the boxes or Yes to speaker you have in your system. then perform calibration and a test tone will come out of each speaker as you select them.

The audio keeps going in and out and cuts off. Also I have other devices going into aux in but it doesn't show 5.1 surround it only shows the front L, Front R, and CT speakers in stereo. I want everything...

If you are playing a source that is Stereo such as FM Radio or a CD the sound will not use all 5.1 speakers unless you enable the correct Surround Mode. On the remote there is a button on the lower right of the remote that says SURROUND. You can toggle through the various surround modes with this button the mode you want is Dolby Pro Logic The Pro Logic mode uses the built-in circuit to steer the Left, Center, Right and Mono Surround channel audio signals and uses all five speakers to play both stereo and Dolby Pro Logic program source, such as TV and VCR. You can use this mode with any stereo program source (such as VCR/TV) to enjoy multi-channel sound experience.

Bought a LG Blu ray DVD Home theater system last weekend and set up with LG lcd tv and has been working fine till today. We had the radio on and I turned the TV on and the two rear speakers do not work...

Hello,
In a surround sound system, the correct way to listen to music is in stereo mode which will play out of your left and right channels and your subwoofer. When viewing a movie with surround sound, then you should use your rear speakers. The key element to remember is that rear speakers are only intended to play your sound effects, and will not play full range audio. Thats what your fronts and center are for. If you simply want to override this, than you will need to select the direct sound field on your receiver and than it will send full range audio to all speakers connected. Most likely, its not going to sound that good. If you dont know what each sound field does, here is a list and function of the most commonly used ones.
Stereo-Front Left and Right speakers including subwoofer
Dolby Digital or PLII Movie-these are the bost options for your surround sound
Direct-All speakers connected get full range signal
Good Luck

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

I had this problem too. Finally, after using the MCACC setup and making sure all the speakers worked, I found I had to set the source to FM, TV or whatever from the remote control and set the mode to advanced surround sound using the front panal button on the upper right. Had to fool with them a lot. Good luck.

STG DR510 no sound on left front channel

Can I assume the calibration procedure also didn't work for the Front left channel? (It's not a "surround" if it's in the front). Switch the receiver to Stereo mode to eliminate any DSP actions. Tune an FM station to eliminate any external device or cable issues. What do you hear from the two Front speakers?

OK? Select a DSP surround mode. Check all modes. What happens?

If the channel goes dead using some or all DSP modes there's probably something wrong with the processor. If they all work...

Isolate the source that exhibits the problem.

It was a bad left channel cable somewhere, wasn't it?

Only sound from Direct and Stereo settings on Denon AVR 788

Other listening modes (dolby, dts, neo6) are decoded from digital signals.

Direct will relay your only your discrete analog inputs - so if you want to use your AVR as an amplifier for those channels, you'll need to supply an input signal in a different manner.

No sound from Front Speaker

take amp to a workbench, have a test speaker in hand, touch the speaker wires to each channel to see if all channels work. take each speaker to the amp and temporarily hook one at a time to see if any speaker is bad. if you eliminate the hardware, you know it's the wires in between.
