This sounds like an inverter problem. its pretty common with these monitors. If it is still under warranty i would contact dell. if not then you can replace the inverter pretty easily yourself, or have a repair shop do it for you.
the inverter board is available from

hope this helps

Screen goes black

More likely to be in the power supply/inverter baord: http://www.lcdrepair.us/E228WFPc-inverter-power.html

Look for bad caps first, but it can also be in the lamp assembly, you will need lamp tester and inverter tester to verify that.

Dell monitor e228wfpC, perfect for 15 seconds after computer boots up. Then goes black. Thinking a back light issue. Never have repaired a back light. thanks Trippy

I will assume that you already try this monitor with other PC and still get the same problem. Most failure in monitors are due to bad caps in the power supply, it can also be transformers, transistors, lamps. See example of failed monitors as guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

The problem is with the power board inside the screen, when it gets hot it shuts down the screen unit it cools off.
It could also be that the power in is not connecting properly to the board i had that before and had to replace the screen it is cheaper in the end parts are to axpensive

Multisync LCD 1700V turns on then screen goes blank and shuts off

Does the power light stay on? If so, you have an inverter problem. If the power light goes off, you have a power supply problem.

Dell monitor shows blank screen, green power light stays on

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should workfine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one thesame way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
