HP Customer Support page and ensure the printer is running the latest available firmware. Print a Configuration Report from the control panel of the printer to check the installed firmware version.
  • If the printer supports expandable memory, you can install additional memory in the form of a DIMM. Check the printer's User Guide to see if it supports additional memory.
  • Break complex print jobs into smaller jobs that contain fewer pages.
  • If the printer is an MFP, delete stored faxes to increase available memory. Go to this document for instructions: HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Delete faxes from memory (ID: emr_na-c03264743)
  • Power cycle the printer to delete stored fonts or macros. It is possible to download fonts or macros in a way that power cycling the printer will not delete them; see Appendix A - Memory Allocation.
  • Changing some software and/or print driver settings might result in a less complex print job.
  • Use a different print driver. For example, a PostScript print driver will typically result in a more complex print file. If possible, try sending the file with a PCL6 or UPD printer driver.
  • Adobe PDF files can sometimes be very complex. Go to this document if printing PDF files is slow or resulting in memory out messages: HP LaserJet - Print job is slow or hangs in the print queue when printing Adobe PDF files (ID: emr_na-c04071740)
  • If the printer is connected via a network, try sending the file connected by USB cable only. This will eliminate possible network issues that are taking printer memory.
  • Appendix A
Memory Allocation Utilities or jobs that you download to the product sometimes include resources (for example, fonts, macros, or patterns). Resources that are internally marked as permanent remain in the product memory until you turn the product off.
Use the following guidelines if you use the page description language (PDL) ability to mark resources as permanent. For technical details, see an appropriate PDL reference for PCL or PS.
    • Mark resources as permanent only when it is absolutely necessary that they remain in memory while the product is turned on.
    • Send permanent resources to the product only at the beginning of a print job and not while the product is printing.
NOTE: Overusing permanent resources or downloading them while the product is printing might affect product performance or the ability to print complex pages.

Dell 2135 full memory error message cannot print PDF files.

All three replies are incredibly stupid, but especially Frank's. The issue is simply that you're trying to print something that has too much complexity in it for the printer's pre-installed memory to store the final rendering of before printing. The way a laser printer works, unlike an ink jet, it has to take the entire page to be printed and render the final output in memory before the page can be fed through since it doesn't go line by line. If you're trying to print something that has a very complex page in it, such as a full 8x10 photo, the base amount of memory may not be enough. Dell sells a 256MB add-on memory chip you can put in the printer to get around this. Unfortunately the only other way around the issue would be to reduce the complexity of the page; perhaps try printing the PDF scaled down to 70% so the printed output is a lot smaller but also takes up less of the page, meaning the printer may be more likely to be able to fit the page into the existing memory.

On HP 5MP laserjet Printer, on printing a document, the message says: the printer requires more memory than is avaailable in this printer.what to do then?

You don't say what kind of a document you are trying to print. Did you try to print something else. Did it print?
Normally if you try and print a complex spread sheet you may get that warning. You have the option of adding more memory or making your print job less complex. Or printing to another printer.

HP J4580 - prints 1/2 page, then a 3-4 min delay before it prints the rest of the page. No error messages, etc., just the long delay. Any advise?

Your printer comes with 16 Mb of non-expandable memory. It could be that you're trying to print a picture that is too complex or too big to fit in the printer memory. If this is the case, it's normal for the printer to print the 1st half of the picture, empty the memory, work on the 2nd half, and then print it.

Does it do the same when you try to print just one page of black and white text WITHOUT any pics? please, do the following test and report back so that I can help you further:
    1) Open the wordpad (not Word and not notepad)
    2) Copy the following and tne hit "print":

    Error Message "Page too Complex"

Hi Sccfire, This apparently is a fairly common problem with the 2800 series printer and associated with connection to a PC using USB. It can only be overcome by manually configuring the printer?s USB port to work in standard mode rather than at high-speed USB2.0 mode which probably won?t be to much of a problem. Here is a link from a support page on HP?s site that should walk you through the process: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00506095 Let us know how it goes and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
