In addition to what is stated above, You need to look inside the refrig. section and to see what foods you're keeping and how you're choosing to store them. You need to look for Onions, Bell Peppers, Garlic... those are the three most common ones to be found . Blue Cheese or other Strong type cheese will do to... It took me 9 yrs to figure out my Mom and Dad cause for why they always complained about a funny taste and smell in their ice cubes, then one time when we were there for dinner, I finally saw why. My dad liked onions, every night make a dinner salad, he'd chop 'em up, along with everything else, place a paper towel ontop, and put in back inside the frig. That 15mins was enough time to create his problem. To this day he still makes his salad the same as before, except now he pulls those chopped onions out from a air tight plastic container. You look for things inside the frig that have an odor, when you smell them and put them inside an air-tight container. Everything..! I had a lady couple years back had a whirlpool from Sears... Had them out 12 times under service contract, they never did fix it, she gave up.. I had to return with parts for her mircowave oven. When I did, she was so appreciative, She gave me a $20. tip and a $40. bottle of wine. And if you want another tip, place any of you're veg.s like lettuce, cabbage, celery... wrap them up in Handy wipes ( those disposable type dish towels) then back into the plastic bag you brought them home in or not.. they will keep in the Refrig 7 days longer. Not paper towels, air can't move through the paper and draw the moisture out. Handy-wipes because they're honeycomb shaped, will allow it.
Are there any drip channels in the back or bottom of the interior of the unit that may be clogged? These channels collect condensate and feed them to a pan under most refrigerators. I assume you have removed bottom food storage drawers and cleaned inside. Also try open box of baking soda which absorbs odors.
