1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz (optimal) resolution is the maximum resolution with 16 color if the other computer had it on 32 bit color setting or the resolution of the monitor aspects ratio changed than it will not display anything on your computer Solution is plug in your old monitor and change the settings to lowest with the aspect ratio as what the screen size is then plug in the new one that should do it
It's most likely your desktop resolution that does not match the ratio of your screen.
The E193FP is a regular 19", which means you should be using resolutions such as the following:
1024x768
1280x1024
These have a ratio of 4:3 (if you divide the first number by the second you should get 1.33333).
If you are using a widescreen resolution, such as 1600x900 then you will experience distortion.
The resolution is set from the computer.
Monitors will have a max resolution, but you will set it up from the display settings.
Most likely your video card or video driver is having the problem.
Windows XP:
Right click "My Computer" then click "properties"
Click Hardware tab then "Device Manager"
If you see a yellow or red mark over the video then you need to download the video driver uninstall the old one and reinstall the new one.
You can the driver from the manufacturer website of your computer brand
Windows Vista:
Almost the same steps
Right click "Computer" then properties
Click on "Device Manager"
If there are no yellow or red marks on the video device
I would recommend following the dell troubleshooting guide for your monitor
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E193FP/En/trouble.htm
Hi,
I would suggest , check the monitor connections again. Dell flat panels are plug and play and donnot require additional drivers.
Make sure , you have not connected , both the analog (vga cable with a blue connector) and the digital (dvi cable with a white connector) to the back of your computer.
Refer to the the link below , to troubleshoot the monitor http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E193FP/En/trouble.htm
Have you made sure the laptop is outputting the the monitor? Does the monitor have dual inputs? if so check it is switched to the correct one. With the laptop turned on and connected, switch the monitor on and off.
good luck
