My 710 recently stopped charging with the AC power cord. I have read about possible fixes. I would like to know if there is a docking station that can be used to charge the battery or at least power the laptop when in use.
The power cord works I hve tested it on other lap tops. I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the laptop itself based on the research I have already done. I just want some info n possible docking stations that can quickly give power to the laptop. The power cord works I hve tested it on other lap tops. Have you checked the AC power pin (where the AC cord plugs in)?
Chances are that the pin has come loose from tugging and pulling on it. When this happens the battery charging is intermittent at best. The parts to fix this problem are usually under $10 but the labor if you take it in is gonna run $100-$200. You can repair it yourself if you're comfortable working with electronic components. Not that tough. WHen you get it fixed, invest in a Cable Retention device to keep it from happening again.

I would try removing the battery and power cord. You need to hold the power button down for 30 seconds. You can then attach the battery and power cord and see if it will power up. This may not be possible if the battery is permanently attached. You will be able to tell right away if this worked.
You may have a loose connection between the motherboard and the charging port. This would involve removing the motherboard and soldering in a new charging port. If this is what is wrong, it takes a professional to fix this issue. This is a rather involved problem to fix.
1. Remove battery from the laptop.
2. Unplug the power cord from the computer.
3. Let the computer sit for a few min.
4. Leave battery out.
5. Connect power adapter to computer
6. Push power button to turn computer on.
7. If computer powers on shut down again, and put battery back in.
8. Push power button to turn computer back on
(at this point battery and power adapter should be connected to the computer)
If computer powers on with power adapter with the battery out. You are having a battery issue. You would want to look into replacing the battery.
If computer does not power on with just the power adapter. You are most likely having a power issue. Depending on how old the laptop is. You will either want to contact the manufacturer. Or take the computer to a computer repair shop, or consider replacing the laptop.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it
So the DC jack on the motherboard is Heating Up? I'm assuming the AC Adapter (charger cord) is also HOT...??
Here's what your issue is:
1. You're using the wrong volt/amp Adapter..(charger) For Example.. Your Laptop needs a 19.5v Adapter and you are using an 18.5v
2. You're using a "generic" AC Adapter and Not an OEM one.. the generic adapters will overheat and sometimes even melt due to Cheap capacitors/resistors being used..
3. You need to clean your Fan/Heatsink.. Clean the heatsink cooling fins to free blockage and stop overheating issue..
Or .... 4. Possible faulty battery

The console might not be turned on. Turn on the console using the main power switch on the back of the console.
Make sure the AC power cord is securely connected.
Visually inspect the AC power cord for damage. Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
Confirm the wall power outlet is active (receiving power). Try a different power outlet.
If possible, test the power cord by connecting it to a different PLAYSTATION 3.
If possible, try another AC power cord on your PLAYSTATION 3.
If you experienced a power surge, shortage, or a lightning storm in
your geographical area recently, this may have affected the PLAYSTATION
3 power supply and the PLAYSTATION 3 may need service.
Make sure the vents are not obstructed in anyway.
Make sure there is adequate ventilation for the PLAYSTATION 3.
There should be at least four (4) inches of clearance between the air
vents on the system and any walls, televisions, entertainment centers,
etc. Otherwise the unit may not function properly due to what are
actually environmental issues.
It's your ac adapter that is causing this issue. The ac adapter doesn't supply enough power or doesn't supply any power at all to the battery. Try to borrow another ac adapter from any inspiron system and if that works, then you need to replace the ac adapter, else, it's the motherboard.
