Everyone who has had the MS Autoupdate ON have fallen victim to some **** update that screwes up their PC/hardware.
The most common is motherboard failure thru some firmware updating the BIOS, Onboard sound driver chip firmware update, Network card driver/firmware update, VGA firmware update etc etc.....
all these **** updates are done so that MS can sell more genuin OS thru new sale of PCs HWs etc....as once ur MB/HD failes u have no option but to buy a new one discarding the old one.....all these are modern mkting techniques used by some reputed co like IBM/Compaq/HP/Dell etc along with MS as the main culprit....how do i know all these.....ha ha ha...
i am ex IBMr
u can fix it provide u format ur HD again...

Can you boot from usb on a sony vaio pcg-9s1l

You may need to "Flash" (Update) the Bios. To do this, go online and download the latest Bios update for your machine.

Unzip the downloaded file and place it on an empty Memory stick.

Insert the memory stick and restart your machine. The Bios update should install.

Wait for the process to finish and then see if you now have the option in Bios>Boot Options to Boot from USB.

Roll it back, do a system restore to yesterday or whichever day it was ok. You can go nutso trying to correct a bios problem, if you can get aroundit with a simple restore. Bios update failed

Windows XP can't see more than 3GB of RAM -- never has, never will. Even thought the BIOS may show 4GB, Windows will show 3GB - not a mainboard problem.
