Check the cable box to make sure the captions aren't truned on in the cable box.
If not -if it really is the Magnavox caption service- then -

1 Press MENU to show the on-screen
2 Press VOL+ or VOL- until SET is highlighted.
3 Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to
highlight CLOSED CAPTION.
4 Press VOL+ or VOL- to display the
CLOSED CAPTION menu.
5 Press CH+ or CH- to select the
closed caption you want (OFF, CC-1,
CC-2, or CC-MUTE). CC-MUTE sets

The Comcast boxes let you enter a special menu only when the box is turned off. Just turn off the Comcast box and press the menu button on the remote you will then see a menu for the box where you can turn on and off close captioning
Check the tv remote for a button that said CC.Used this CC button turn all CC1.2.3 ...to off. These will stop all the tv close captioning functions.Or check the tv Menu goto Close Captioning 1,2,3..close all to off, turn off all the text 1,2,3...to all off too.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
You need to turn on closed captions through the menu of your PVR. To have it on all the time, turn the box off, press menu on the front of the box, and scroll down to captions.
This should fix the problem
We had the exact same problem just yesterday when we bought our Sony 46" Bravia LCD. Nobody, neither Comcast Cable or Sony seemed to really know how to get rid of the closed caption at first and we did have a Motorola box - the box is the problem, not the tv. Here is step-by-step instructions that worked for us.
1. While TV is on, power DCT (Digital Cable Terminal) off
2. Press and hold "menu" button on digital terminal (the screen below will appear)
3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption"
4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Disabled
5. Press "ok-select"
6. When done, press "power" to exit menu
7. Press "power" again to turn DCT on
If you go through these steps slowly, you should have a caption-free screen!
Assuming whatever your TV receiving from has close caption. (Not all TV channel has close caption)
Solution 1) Get a new universal remote that support your model and has close caption button. Once you program in the code for your TV model and it works then all button should also programmed including th close caption button.
Solution 2) Search online for the owner manual and read see how to turn it on using buttons on TV (if possible).
Solution 3) Get new TV with close caption. (If you have an old old TV with bad and huge pixels then this solution is the best. Your eyes will thank you.)
