He cooktop (Magic Chef, 30" gas)electronic igniters have the clicking sound, but do not ignite the gas. This happened after spraying cleaning solution on the burners. This may have clogged the contact points with sludge. Is it possible to remove the burner assembly for cleaning? It does not seem to have any screws for removal from the top. Does the burner assembly remove from the underside of the burners? Or is it possible to clean out the contacts without removing the burner units?

Try Google your manufacture name model # and the word parts. This will not correct your lighting problem. It sounds like you have a igniter switch problem.
always unplug electricity before attempting to repair on any electrical appliance
The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.
If it's two burners on the same side that won't light, it is probably the igniter for that side. If so, remove the grates, griddle, and griddle sub pan, and then lift up the main "pan (if it's like mine, it's hinged at the back and lifts up). Now, if each burner on that side has a tube going to the middle between the burners, the igniter is in that middle section. Mine is a small plug-in ceramic and metal part (see photo). If yours looks like this, contact me at [email protected], I have a spare.
We called in an appliance repair technician. He said during the cleaning process of the cooktop, when the control knobs had been removed to thoroughly clean the cooktop, some cleaning fluid or water or moisture got into the ignition switch panel under the cooktop. Letting it dry for 24 hours should fix the problem and this appears to have done that.
Dawnie, under each burner control there is a valve and a switch. One of your switches has either become wet or shorted out. This is why it's clicking. Sometimes grease gets in them and causes this problem. The part number for the switch is 7403p367-60. You can look it up on the net to see what Im talking about. Not a hard fix. Catriver..post back.
