Our gateway EV700 is dim but visible, the settings are at full, if you smack it sometimes will turn bright for a few moments then it will go dim again. i don't know the age. i have heard there are...

17,000 volts inside, and for sure holds charge.
do not play inside (I can but I'm certified)
CRT now dead, and gone, why waste time on 3 generations older displays. and poor resolution ! 1280

buy a used 2010 , or newer, LED LCD display.
end the pain.
here some are.

Gateway (FPD1830) LCD Monitor

It can be bad caps in the power supply, bad inverter circuits (check the green color fuse (F1, 4A 125V) close to the heatsink and a trim pot), bad inverter transformers, bad lamps.
You open it up using flat blade screw driver starting along the bottom edge of the case. Post back what you see insdie so we can guide you further.

Screen going black, green LED staying on

Check to see if the image is Dimmed. Chances are the power supply on the FPD is either dead or not supplying power to the back lights.
Your problem is the power supply or the inverter on your board, you can replace it and it will be fixed.
Easy Fix REALLY EASY FIX
(inverter is what supplies power to your backlights. A lot of the times the reason a monitor goes black and the green power button is on, is because the backlights shut off. in most designs of the 1730 the inverter is embedded on the power supply. That is most often the case on this problem. Power supply/Inverter=Replace it and you will have a spanking new looking nice monitor working again. :)

Monitor not Display

Hi Rey,

Hope this helps you like what I did to resolve this kinda problem. If you can manage to open the chassis/cover check first if the HOT (horizontal output transistor) is good, if good check the SMPS (switching mode power supply) primary and secondary side if there are short filter capacitors, diodes, transistors and open resistors. Major faults to consider is by checking the load of SMPS, control circuit, driver circuit, feedback ckt.

Please let somebody to assist you (a certified technician) how to open the chassis safely due to electric shock. Please be guided accordingly.

Best regards,

Green Light, no Display - Gateway FPD1730

I picked up a FPD1730 monitor for free which was just sitting out in my apartment hallway. I suspected something was wrong and sure e**ugh there was ** backlight, but I could see faint video when I shined a flashlight on it.

A quick Google search of the inverter model # led me to a German forum which suggested replacing the fuse labeled "F1" on the inverter board. I don't have a matching fuse on hand but I bridged the connection with a wire and sure e**ugh the backlight came back on. Short-circuiting like this is definitely **t 100% safe but if you can find a 4A fuse then it's a really cheap and quick fix.
