Digital cameras Having followed palmbeaches instructions re uploading photos from my canon A530 to my acer laptop, Ive had no joy. The computer doesnt appear to recognise the camera. I turned on the computer, plugged in the camera , turned it on and zip. The software is installed as it appears on startup with the other programmes. Am I beyond hope?

No, it was only my total incompetence. I worked it out despite myself. Thanks to all, I admire your patience.

Need to upload photos from my computer back onto my cannon digital camera

To upload your photographs using a USB cable, follow these steps:
  1. Plug the correct end of the USB cable into the corresponding USB slot on your Canon camera.
  2. Plug the fitting end of the USB cable into its correlating USB slot, either on the side of your laptop or on your computer tower.
  3. Turn on your digital Canon Camera and wait for your computer screen to provide you with prompts.
  4. Follow the directions on your screen to upload the photographs into your corresponding photography viewing software. This software can differ whether you have a Mac OS or Windows PC.

Photos will not upload from camera to computer

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.

My Canon Powershot A530 is having problems. When I plug it into my computer it fails to detect any photos, even though I took many new photos. What's going on?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

Cannot transfer files from computer back to Canon Powershot A530

Your camera is designed to be a source of pictures, not a destination. If you want to copy pictures to a memory card, you need to use a card reader and not a camera.

I have a canon A530 digital camera and its mode switch on the right top corner has broken and is lost and we cannot download photos to our computer, etc

To download the pictures, remove the SD/MMC card from the camera (in the battery compartment) by pushing on it, then releasing it, and putting it in an SD/MMC card reader connected to your computer.

Uploading digital photos

Hi there

The A530 is equiped with a socket that allows you to connect to a USB connection on your computer. You will need the lead that came with your camera. Look for any spare USB socket on your computer. It looks like a small plain rectangular shape, mostly with a flat white strip inside it that will match the plug on your camera's lead. Make sure your camera is switched off, then connect your lead. Switch the camera on when it is connected and your computer should atutomatically detect it. It should say "Found new hardware." If you get to this stage, you're on the right track.

Next, launch the program you installed from the software cdrom that came with your camera. This should guide you through the next stage and allow you to send your photos to your computer.

If they are important, be sure to back them up so that if your computer breaks down or is stolen, you still have your photos.
