This means that the lens of your dvd player is having a hard time reading the discs. It could be dirty. You need to run a disc cleaner to run into your player for like 30 seconds. It it does not solve the problem. You might need to clean the lens manually. Open the casing and unscrew the plastice plate covering the lens. Then get a q tip damped in an alcohol. Gently wipe on the lens' surface and let it dry. Return everything back and play those discs again.

Try inserting a cd, almost all dvd players can play cds as well, if it displays the same message you may very well have a defective dvd player, if it plays then you may have a damaged disc. If it plays the cd try a mint condition dvd; also, I'll assume that you know better but in many cases if the dvd player is not defective users are simply loading dvds in upside down. If all this fails return your dvd player to the store or check the warrenty.
hello i have had the same problem this maybe because of the region that your dvd is made to play.different dvd players play different.region dvd the regions should be on the dvd and the dvd cover.
Are you loading to play or to record? Commercial DVDs should play. DVDs for recording may not be recognized by your drive. First make sure that the disc is blank. You must insert a blank disc of the proper format: DVD-R or RW, DVD+R or RW. Even with the proper format, some brands may not behave the same way as other brands.
