Trunking no longer works on my BCD996T scanner, Conventional work

I was mistaken on my previous post but here is the situation: My trunking no longer works on my BCD996T Uniden police scanner. I was using bctool online with my old desk top (windows 98) to delete the memory since I was planning on importing frequencies and IDs but I got a screen about a bug that prevented me from importing. I used my brand new desk top and got the same bug message. I went to proscan and was able to import frequencies and IDs smoothly but the trunking did not work yet the Conventional frequencies work fine. I tried erasing the memory again and only having the original preprogrammed info back into the scanner(depressing keys 2,9,hold and turn unit on at the same time) and then manually imported IDs and frequencies and the trunking stilll would not work. The scanner has the original firmware 1.03.11 and it is about 2 years old.

Hi Mike,

Try updating the firmware and see if this solves the problem. While I understand that it "worked before", some of the programming software has been updated to work only with the newer firmware. Also, the newer versions of programming software are required when importing systems directly from radio database sites (such as radioreference.com).

If this does not work, try to enter system data by hand rather than importing. If trunking works then, it sounds like a software problem with your programming software versus the radio itself.

Hope this helps!

How do you start to program a bct8 800 mz scanner

Programming conventional frequencies into the scanner's PRIVATE bank is simple, but programming trunking systems is a detailed process that will take some research and probably some practice. The best instructions for both types of programming are found in the factory operating manual that you can download and print, at no cost, here:
http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BCT8om.pdf

I have a uniden bearcat scanner and cant pick up my local police dept. I put the frequency in and still dont hear anything. I have a bc145xl 16 channel scanning radio and want to know if its compatible...

If you programmed the correct frequency, you should be getting reception. Check www.RadioReference.com to verify the frequency. Otherwise, you may be too far from the transmitter to receive signals. Try your scanner in other locations, check your antenna, and try receiving the PD on another scanner.

The MARCS - Ohio Multi-Agency Radio Communications system - is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink Trunking system that utilizes APCO-25 digital transmissions. Your BC145XL is not compatible with trunking or digital systems. In order to follow the MARCS you will need one of the following scanners:
GRE PSR-500, PSR-600
Radio Shack PRO-106, PRO-197, PRO-96, PRO-2096
Uniden BC250D, BC785D, BC296D, BC796D, BCD396T, BCD396T, BCD996T, BCD996XT, or the brand new HomePatrol-1

No clue how to program the scanner !!

Your best choice for software is the BuTel program. You can find it on Butel.com, ScannerWorld.com, or RadioReference.com. Once you have it installed you can download and program both conventional and trunked systems directly from RadioReference.com. I have the BCD996XT with Butel and RadioReference, and the combination works great.

Unable to program trunking after uniden download was completed

I would try redownloading and reflashing the firmware on the scanner. If this doesn't work, you may want to try downgrading to the previous version of the firmware. If you are unable to redownload the firmware from Uniden, there is a Yahoogroup dedicated to this radio.

Also in the files section, there are older versions of the firmware.

Hope this helps!

Programing

I assumed that you mean Motorola GTX handheld radio. It can be programming to work with conventional, if it's a trunking radio then need to keep at least one trunking in radio, otherwise it lost all trunking.

Scanner problem

check this link for user manual if you need it http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC72XLTom.pdf
to heard trunking you should check if your scanner can handle this communications protocols.
to set frequencies, you should know wich band are they working, VHF, UHF, or 800, to start scanning.
Even they are in trunking, you will heard trunking channels but maybe just one side of the communications

Edacs frequencies

Are you getting talkgroup ID's? If not, you're probably monitoring the EDACS system in conventional mode rather than trunking. When the scanner hears those beeps, it's supposed to go back to monitoring the control channel if you're in either trunking mode (search or scan). This also happens if the CC isn't coming in very well. If you're not in trunking mode, read the manual to find out more about programming and monitoring trunked systems. If you are in trunking mode and receiving ID's, the unit is probably malfunctioning.
