It is a DRIVER issue. You DO NOT have the right driver for your webcam and Win7. Try the XP Drivers. Here is how to Install them so they work. Download your XP driver you wish to install. If it's in a zip/rar file then extract it to your desktop. You should have a simple .exe file sitting on your desktop to install the drivers, as normal for XP. Right click the .exe file and select "Properties". Then select the tab called "Compatibility" Now check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Make sure "Windows XP Service Pack 2" is highlighted. Now apply the settings and run the installer. This should work for most drivers, but not all

Hi, welcome to FixYa!

You can try installing the driver for the webcam. Try to download and install the driver from this:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3791887&

Choose Windows 7 (32-bit) as your operating system.

If Windows 7 is still not recognized the webcam, you can try download and install webcam software such as Cyberlink YouCam.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Sony vaio vgn fz11m webcam

Congratulation for user of Sony VAIO VGN-FZ11M model: PCG-381M laptop because now they can install windows 7 professional 32bit and use webcam. Sony official website doesn't provide the drivers for windows 7 but if you install VISA drivers, it will work fine except webcam (as might be you knew). But you don't worry and download webcam drivers from this link and install it:-

I have a Sony Vaio CR42, and I installed Window 7, my webcam doesnt work. Could you guys please advise

This is a common Windows 7 problem as not everything has the 7 drivers. What you need to do is go to www.sony.com and get to the consumer devices and then support. Either use their search for your laptop model or use the selector. When you get to your CR42 support page then make sure you have windows 7 selected as the operating system. Now look for the webcam drivers. If it does not have them you can try using vista or then xp drivers which may not install. Unfortunately if that doesn't work all you can do is send a email to Sony Support and hope they have a work around or keep checking back to this page to see if they have released a driver.

Hi,

There are lots of troubleshooting steps that you can try at this point of time. Even I checked and found that Wireless Drivers for Windows 7 are not available for this model. In Windows 7, there is no particular driver for the Camera as the computer will use the inbox driver shipped with the Windows 7 OS. However to avail the proper functionality of the Camera application, you can install the WebCam Companion Software for the Windows 7 OS from the below link:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR515E&upd_id=5051&os_id=44

Also install the ArcSoft Magic-i Visual Effects Software:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR515E&upd_id=5079&os_id=44

For the wireless driver and utility, I would suggest that you install the Wireless driver for Windows Vista as I have my personnel experience that Vista drivers usually works with the Windows 7 environment. Once you successful install the Wireless driver, the computer will get back its wireless functionality and you can enable and disable the wireless feature using the Windows Mobility Center from the control panel.

Please download the wireless driver and update for the computer from the below link:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR515E&upd_id=3321&os_id=28

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCR515E&upd_id=4751&os_id=28

These drivers should install normally with out any issues. If you are getting an error message indicating the Vista compatibility error, you can use Universal Extractor to extract the setup files of the these drivers and then run them separately

Please let me know if you want any more info.

Thanks!!!

First verify if the Windows 7 Operating System is compatible with your computer model from the sony support page for your compauter. Check the list of compatible operating system and if the drivers are available.
If the Windows 7 Operating System installed is supported then, install the Sony Shared library, Sony Notebook Utilities and VAIO event Service Update if available.
This should resolve the issue.
However, if the issue persists and the Windows 7 Operating system is not supported by the computer, the only resort will be to perfom recovery and install the windows Vista Operating System that was shipped by the manufacturer.

My Acer Webcam Is Gone Ever Since I Installed Windows 7!?

As with all laptops parts are sourced from different manufacturers. Laptops had to be certified for WIN 7. Some ACERs laptop models are, but if the model wasnt certified for the WIN 7 platform they would not have developed a driver for your model. After checking ACER did NOT certify this unit as Windows 7 Compatibile due to driver incompatibilities. You can either downgrade to Windows Vista.. which will require a full reformat of drive (WIN 7 doesnt just uninstall) and reinstall from fresh VISTA.. so be sure and save your data. Or you can determine who makes the webcam in teh notebook and see if the manufacturer has a direct driver..OR FINALLY.. you could load the Vista driver and then go into the webcam software you use and right click and say run in "Windows vista" or "Windows XP" compatible mode. Be sure and keep looking at ACER to see if they state your system can go to Win 7 at a later date as sometime manufacturers will make drivers available which could change its status.
