Check from your device manager that webcam drivers are properly installed. also check that webcam is not disabled.

Usually there is no need to activating a web cam some are built-in to the system itself for example the newest laptops that are coming out if it is a web cam that was bought then the web cam should be a simple point in click it is best to install the program for the web cam first then to plug the device in to the PC after install if worse comes to worse then there should be a costumer support information that came with the web cam if not just look up the model of the web cam usually on the back with a white label

The webcam is not activated. How can I activate it?
Try holdoing down FN (bottom left of your keyboard) with associated F button (top of your keyboard) For example : Hold FN and F5 down together and release together. The associated F button should have a picture of a camera on it.

As I am sure you are aware, the Slingbox is designed to allow you to watch any video source remotely from any computer with an internet connection.

A web-cam would be slightly different, normally web-cams do not have video output, they normally have a USB or Fire-wire connection. There are some software packages and web-cams that allow for remote activation and viewing. These units and programs should be able to be found under "Home Automation" or "Home Monitoring"
