Hello, You dont need a product key for Service Pack 3 to upgrade from service pack 2. You can simply download an official copy of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP from Microsoft's downloads center.
Just go to the control panel and in that go to add or remove programs in that remove or uninstall the older version and then download new version of the hot mail messenger .
Have you installed the full WindowsLive! suite? You can get away with installing Messenger and Mail, but the latest messengers are built to run with Live!
The Microsoft "Service Pack 2" is just a collection of program-updates and security-fixes for either the "original" Windows XP, or for Windows XP with Service Pack 1 already applied.
As such, it does _NOT_ require any "key".
Note that it's probable that Service Pack 2 will _NOT_ install on a "bootleg" version of Windows XP (original or SP1), because the SP2 update includes the Microsoft "Windows Genuine Advantage" update.
That is true for most all service packs. Some Upgrades, especially if the upgrade is a Major one, and changes the first number of the version of the software (eg 3.01 to 4.0) those may cost ya, but minor revisions (eg 3.01 to 3.25) should be free and without keys.
try to uninstall evertyhing that is yahoo like the toolbar and the messenger and then reinstall back.. that is a faulty version.. try to get the latest one.
