Cannot read temporary image files. Editing Page

I use Epson stylus photo RX640, with the driver, scanner 3.0zd
I can preview and scan, but when I try to save I get the alert
"Cannot read temporary image files. Editing Page will close"
I have reinstalled the program, still the same problem.
It happens now and then, and I can´t find any solution to the problem.

I have Vista 64 bit. But the scanner has been working properly for over a year now, and no new programs were installade previuos to the problem

How do you scan a document using a pc?

The printer can be used for scanning without a computer in sense of the scanner offering a copying facility - in B+W or Colour just by pressing the appropriate button on the printer. However, for scanning via the computer, if you are using a Photo programme (like say Adobe Photoshop or virtually all such programmes) normally you will find under the FILE menu (when programme is open) that you should see a menu item on the drop down menu when you click on FILE something like IMPORT - and the Epson printer will be seen listed in the menu that pops up. If you click on that, the Epson scanner programme will start. Normally there is a simple mode but you can change that to the PRO (or may be called Advanced mode) when you can do things like PREVIEW - which will then scan the document or photo in the scanner - and you can in the PRO mode change such as the resolution, what type of documents and so forth. When the Preview runs, you will see the document appear after the quick scan in the main RH panel. You can use a select tool to select the bit you want to scan if not the whole - most into on this will be in their manual - which you should have on the CD that came with the printer. Anyway - always worth ensuring you have the latest drivers, etc. so go to this link on the Epson website, click on Scanner Driver and Scanner Utility and download and install. Whilst on the Epson website, download the manual for that model as it will answer many queries for you as regards printing and scanning. All such info and software for downloading is under SUPPORT area - you select the region in the World where you live, then search for your printer model. The Epson website will normally auto-detect your computer's operating system to ensure you get the right version of Printer Drivers, other software and so forth. If you have no Photo Programme as yet - get Faststone Image Viewer (free) as an excellent programme. http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm

My Epson RX650 scan software will not start up. The printer works and the copy feature works. When I double click on the Epson Scan icon on my desktop it appears that it wants to start up but then...

Install another scanning software, if you have photoshop or any imaging software, you can use the scanner by going to the menu, then choose File, Import, TWAIN, Acquire and the scanner control will appear.

Or just go to My Computer and double click the scanner icon (in XP) to start the scanning assistant.

When I try to scan one 4x5 positive sheet film it gives me 6 thumbnail pieces rather then one image?

Open Epson Scan and select Professional Mode. Turn off the Auto Thumbnail option which if it is not on the main page then check the small drop down menus next to the Scan/Preview options. Once that is off do a preview and the in the preview window manually draw a marquee around the area you need.

The drop down menu does not give the option to have the picture scanned/saved jpg format which is necessary for certain sites such as shutterfly

Please follow the steps below to scan and save a Multi-Page PDF with Epson Scan.

1. Launch Epson Scan from your START, (ALL) PROGRAMS, EPSON SCAN.
2. If prompted, select your scanner model. Epson Scan will now launch.
3. Click the drop down arrow next to SCAN, select FILE SAVE SETTINGS.
4. Select PDF for IMAGE format. Click OK.
5. Click SCAN. Click OK to proceed (if prompted).
6. Once the image has scanned you will be prompted to click ADD PAGE or DONE.
7. Click ADD PAGE to scan more documents.
8. Once you have scanned all your documents, click DONE.
9. Your documents will now appear in the EDITING PAGE window. Click OK.
10. The multi-page PDF is now created.

Placing your materials on the document table
Starting the software and scanning an image
EPSON Scan provides three modes for you to make any scanning settings; Full Auto Mode, Home Mode, and Professional Mode. This section describes how to scan an image in the Full Auto Mode. The Full Auto Mode lets you scan images using automatically-adjusted settings. For more details, see Choosing a Scanning Mode.
Note:

You cannot scan an image with a size that exceeds the available memory or disk space. If you try to scan the image, an alert appears on the screen.
Note for Macintosh users:

Most illustrations shown in this section are for Windows, so they may vary in appearance from what actually appears on your screen. The instructions are the same, except as noted.
Caution:

Before starting the following steps, make sure that all the necessary software including EPSON Scan has been installed. For details about how to install the software, see the Start Here sheet.
Turning on the CX6600
Before turning on the CX6600, make sure it is connected to your computer.
Press the On button to turn on the CX6600. All mode lights flash, then the mode button for the mode you used last lights, meaning it has completed its initialization.

Placing your materials on the document table
You can scan reflective documents (like photos or paper). See Placing Photos and Documents on the Document Table.

Starting the software and scanning an image
You can start EPSON Scan in the following ways.
* Start EPSON Scan directly as a stand alone application
* Start EPSON Scan from a TWAIN-compliant application
This section provides information on how to start EPSON Scan from ArcSoft PhotoImpression. For details on starting EPSON Scan as a stand-alone application, see Starting EPSON Scan.
Note; if you are using Windows 98:

ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 supports Windows 98 Second Edition or later. For version earlier than Windows 98 Second Edition, use EPSON Scan or other TWAIN compliant applications. See Starting EPSON Scan for details.
Start ArcSoft PhotoImpression.
For Windows users:
Click Start, point to All Programs (for Windows XP users) or Programs (for Windows 98, Me, or 2000 users), and select ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5. Click PhotoImpression 5.
For Macintosh users:
Double-click the Applications folder on your Macintosh HD, then double-click the PhotoImpression folder. Finally, double-click the PhotoImpression 5 icon.
Click the Camera/Scanner button.
Select a file format, location, and file name, then click Epson Stylus CX6600. EPSON Scan starts. See File formats for information on file formats.
Note for Windows XP users:

Do not choose WIA-Epson Stylus CX6600 from the menu to select the CX6600. If you select it, you cannot use the Epson scanner function fully.
EPSON Scan automatically previews the image, and recognizes the document source and type.
If you want to select more settings, click Pause, then click Options to open the Options dialog box. For more details on settings, click the Help button in the Option dialog box.
After EPSON Scan has previewed and recognized the document type, the following window appears. You can see the document type in the window.
EPSON Scan automatically locates the target images, modifies their skew, and starts scanning.
Caution:

Do not open the scanner unit during scanning or copying; otherwise, you may damage the CX6600.
Note:

Be aware that clicking Cancel on this screen closes EPSON Scan.
The scanned image is sent to ArcSoft PhotoImpression.
Note:

* Depending on the image you want to scan, you may not get the expected scanned image. In this case, scan the image in the Home Mode or Professional Mode.

* When you scan in the Full Auto Mode, black and white documents might be recognized as a color document. In this case, scan the image in the Home Mode or Professional Mode.
If you still experience problem scanning, un-install the entire software and re-install them all over. Install all the packages in the CD. Cheers!

OCR

To scan a document for editing purposes, you will need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. OCR software is not included with your model.
OCR software interprets the scanned document for editing purposes. The Epson driver alone only scans documents as image files and is not capable of this interpretation.
Some reputable OCR software programs on the market are:
Omni Page Pro
ABBYY FineReader Pro
Presto! OCR 4.0
Please understand that Epson has NOT tested our products with these programs. They do not know if these programs are TWAIN compliant and will import directly from our scanners. I recommend that you contact these companies for full compatibility information if you are interested.
