Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

My Nikon D40x will not always take a picture when I push the shutter and will not focus whats wrong with it?

I have the same problem and I make this: take out the zoom lens from the body and put it again. The auto-focus comes back. Another my solution: Push autofocus buton to M (manual) and back to A (auto). Then sometimes starts again to work autofocus. But still I know it is not final solution...

I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z33 and i dropped it a while ago and it continued to work (kind of, the images were a bit blurry). i took a picture five minutes ago and then turned it off. the lens went in but...

Sounds like the focus motor came loose - you need to take it apart and repair the gear that drives the lens assembly for focusing. The noise you're hearing is the motor trying to focus but since the lens cannot focus it continues to run and signals an error.

I own a casio exilim ex-z850. it has been showing a lens error, every time i try to take switch it on. the memory card is fine, i view the pictures. but the lens wont open up or anything. please reply...

Hi,
This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust, may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
  • If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move onces or twice then it will stuck again.
Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Good luck and have a nice day.
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Camera wont turn on and lens wont go in and i just put new batteries in

Lens of the Camera doesn't retract:
---------------------------------------
Before trying any of the suggestions, make sure that the Battery is
fully charged and in recording mode.

1) Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes,
then put them back in and turn the camera on.
2) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed
air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body
and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should
remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function
fine.s

3) Try forcing the camera lens:

Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and
take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If
you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the
problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if
the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.
Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back into place. Try
powering the camera back on.

If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts
again, do the following.
(a) Turn the camera off.
(b) Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part
of the lens and gently move it round in a circular movement. Do so with
both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in
place.
(c) Power the camera on.

Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the largest
ring of the lens while turning the camera on. Listen for a "click". If
at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and off and take
lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should slowly start
improving.

The auto focus is not working. My pictures are blurry & out of focus.

Clean the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab dampened lightly with rubbing alcohol.

Focus error message camera wontwork

I found this site to solve this problem. I got as far as tapping the lens, while turning it off. That worked but I still could not take pictures, so, I got the idea to put slight pressure on the lens when turning the camera on and was delighted to see that the error message was gone. Then, reluctantly, I snapped a picture...It worked. Hope this helps u 2..

Focus error show up and can't take any pictures

Had "FOCUS ERROR" appear on my Finepix S9500. The lens seemed to be stuck at the extremity of focus range. I resorted to hitting the camera on a table while turning it off (because this is when it sounded as though the focus motor was trying to move the lens back). Guess what? It worked!!!!!

FOCUS ERROR

I also had this problem. When starting the focus error alert came. Trying to move the focus button also triggered this. When I turned it off, the lens did not pull back. After being close to trowing it away, I used a little bit more force than before and turned the lens manually. I heard a click, and than it worked again. PS: Follow this tip on your own risk.....
