I'm having trouble scanning a document. It comes up with an error that thereis no communication. It does print??? Any ideas?

Uninstall all of the software and then reinstall it. If still issues contact Brother tech support for assistance. They are really wonderful and will get you up and running. Your wifi is working so the router is not an issue. Check out your usb cable and try another one or a different usb port on computer.

Have you installed the HP scanning software? (Found on the HP website).

Delete the current Printer Drivers or Printer Software and reinstall the updated Software from your printer manufacturer. If the Printer works when printing a document; then the printer is getting the proper communications and it is recognized; thus the commands to scan are blocked and need to be renewed. If you have Photoshop, try their scan options and see if that works.

no, print server is just that, print server is only good for printing. I don't know if there are a device you can use for all-in -one office machine. I am looking for one myself.

I found a solution to this...

1. Go to the Windows Start Button
2. Click on Programs
3. Click on Windows Fax and Scan
4. Use that program to scan documents

Do you get any kind of error messages i.e. failure to print document or communication error? If you were able to print before, this might have something to do with pending documents on your printer driver. Try to do the following:

click start -> control panel -> printers & faxes (windows xp) / printers (windows vista)

look for your printer icon and check what's the status that would be found underneath the name. It should indicate a number (which is supposed to be 0, meaning no documents on queue) and below that should be ready. You may right click the icon and click "Cancel all documents" if there's an option for that and/or right click again for the "Use printer online" option. Let me know if you're still having troubles.

There is a Windows Port that is being blocked. First make sure the IP it's scanning to and IP on the machine are the same. disable the firewall. I'm working on narrowing down the port now and will post as soon as I find it.

This sort of thing can be down to the fact the settings for communication to the printer is separate for printing/faxing/scanning. So you will need to find the scanning device (will usually be called HP3050 regardless, or something along the lines of that) and make sure it's set to communicate through USB and no other means.
