Windows vista home / broadcom802.2bg internal wifi quits working

My compaq presario laptop (F572US) occasionally won't get online because of this darn internal wifi that has quit working twice in the last 18 months. the first time it happened i could not fix it, gave up and bought an external usb wifi. then after many months, i cleaned the registry one day and it miraculously started working again. now after many months again its stopped working AGAIN (the indicator light will not go from orange to blue anymore.) i cleaned the registry, didn't work. tried system restore, didn't work. reinstalled the drivers, didn't work. downloaded three different versions of compatible drivers from compaq website and installed the oldest one. it worked! then, later when i changed an intellipoint mouse wheel setting, it frickin quit again. just about lost my patience with this COMPAQ laptop because the LCD quit and had to be replaced after 18 months of service. anyway if you know something helpful about how to tame this tricky little wifi adapter i would appreciate your reply before i spend the money on a new toshiba satellite.

1 years ago,my wifi destroyed. I think,it is because of transfer a virus from connecting a flash memory to my laptop. Then the Driver was uninstalled. I cant fix it, even with reinstalling windows...

Hi ziaee f88...

You may still have a virus, worm, trojan, etc on your computer.
To remove a virus, trojan, worm, etc from your computer...do it the EASY way...let someone else do it for you.
Start your computer, as the computer is starting keep tapping the F8 Key.
This will start the computer in the Safe Mode.
Once in the safe mode go to the following webage below and download, install, and run Microsoft Safety Scanner for FREE.
Once you run the Microsoft Safety Scanner (it may take quite a while depending on the size of your hard drive) it will remove all the virus's,trojans, worms, etc it finds, if it does not completely remove them all you will be given a chance to chat with a Microsoft Professional thru a pop open window and he will take control of your computer (with your permission) and finish removing all the rest of the virus's, trojans, or worms that are on your computer for FREE!! Can't beat FREE!!
Please take time to rate me four thumbs up

I have a compaq f572us laptop with vista o/s.Started loading xp and turned the laptop off before fully loading xp.Now it will not boot up. Powers up,led lites come on(hdd, dvd, wireless).

Try these steps in order

1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP
2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES
4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN
5) START IT UP.

After you get it started you will most Likely have to reinstalled windows.

My Compaq presario f572us notebook screen turns black upon normal startup. The screen does not turn black if I start-up in the safe mode. It only when i attempt to start windows normally. Everything loads...

i also have a compaq presario f572us that's been having similar problems. when i went onto the hp website i saw that apparently they've been having similar problems with this type of computer as they offer free repairs for 2 years after you bought it. you should probably check if this works for you too

I need help with my compaq laptop i had to wipe the drive and reinstall windows xp and now i have none of the wireless card driversi mean i have none of the drivers that i can tell none for networking...

Did this laptop originally come with Vista installed, and you downgraded to XP?
No?
Did you install XP from a full Installation disk you bought?
The reason I ask this, is it shows Windows Vista as the original operating system.

I found, as you did that there is no LAN driver available from HP Support, except for Windows Vista. (Broadcom Wireless)

I suggest this:

Contact HP.
I would call them. Much nicer speaking to a real person, and faster than emailing them.

Here is the phone information page,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact/phone_assist.html#section1

(Product Name is Presario)
Phone number is 1-800-474-6836

I just called the above 1-800 number, to verify it was still a good working number, and to talk to tech support myself, about what is involved for you to obtain this disk, and if said disk was available for THIS laptop using the Windows XP operating system.
(Apologize for the run-on sentence)
(9:37PM, Thursday, Sept. 17)

[1.Get Tech Support
2.Notebook PC
3.Presario
Wait for tech support. Time I incurred? 3 minutes waiting time]

You'll have to call tech support yourself, so that you can give them THE serial number. At that time, the tech will verify whether drivers are available for LAN, for the Compaq Presario F572US laptop. Then a Restoration Disk will be offered as an option.

Tell them you need the Restoration Disk for your Compaq Presario F572US laptop, running Windows XP.

Tell them the Serial Number, (s/n in the white Service Tag), and the Operating System, (Windows XP)

(Sometimes you have to remind them of the operating system, to be sure there isn't mis-communication, and they send you a Restoration Disk for Vista)

The Restoration Disk is free. The Shipping and Handling is not. The prices are $17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
(Including Tax)
They have an overnight option also.

Compaq HP Presario F572US just turned off.

Remove the battery and plug laptop power into the wall (or power strip).
Turn ON laptop without battery.
It should start.
After Windows has settled, put battery back in and let it charge up.

Hope this helps!
